Batlogic erg adaptor
Batlogic erg adaptor
Just curious if anybody uses the adaptor, plate and Nike Omada shoes on an erg? A fellow club member uses them, but has been erging seriously for a few years now and can justify the $450 cost. What about competition? Do any of you racers ever see peeps using the combo? They claim its legal, but it seems like it'd sure generate some bah humbugs from the crowd?
There is a noticeable difference in the mechanics in the video (pretty good form vid, too), but I'm not sure if it's a $500 difference and it'd be hella hard hiding bright red shoes from the wife

Re: Batlogic erg adaptor
That video is awful. The rower isn't sequencing the stroke/recovery right, he's over compressing at the front, he's roller coasting the handle/chain. It's not a good example and I don't think his shoes are making any difference to a bad technique.

Yeah, Paul is the club member who uses them - he seems to like them.lindsayh wrote:Paul Buchanan is using them here:

Haha, indeed, looks fine, often overcompressing is not such a problem. What people overlook is just like with squats, individual build, lenght of the femur, lower leg, trunk differs widely in people, so its simply impossible to have one stroke for all.mg6682 wrote:I disagree - its pretty darn good stroke.
Re shoes, think its not worth the trouble. A guy like you has plenty of room elsewhere. Re Paul, he knows my feelings, trains a lot, but has one big flaw, his bodycomposition, saw him in the flesh this winter and he really is not on his ideal weight.
I use 3/4 different shoes, and to be honoust, notice no difference at all.
Doug, about time you show a vid of your perfect style
Re: Batlogic erg adaptor
I've been wanting to try a throwing shoe for a while now and finally ordered a pair today as they were cheap. Very similar to the Omada in appearance.
Nike Zoom SD4 - $50
Nike Omada - $175 (over $450 will all the extra plates, etc)

Re: Batlogic erg adaptor
They're legal. Starting to get some adoption by actually rowers too (most notably Kiwi pair)
I use a set - I fitted the shoes for my boat first, and noticed quite a nice difference (leg drive feels more connected at the front end), so used erg adapter too. I notice they seem to help with the age old C2 problem of leaning too far back - again I suspect this this is due to better leg engagement at the front (esp. glutes which I feel work much harder now).
On sprints I also find I tend to rate 1-2 spm higher with these - hopefully due to less back movement, could equally be due to making it easier to drag myself up the slide.
No noticeable impact on splits.
Word of warning is that although erg adapter works with any rowing shoes, inserts will only work properly with Omada (other shoes will fit on the inserts, but don't line up properly so heel support isn't quite under heel of shoe and same for toes)

I agree it's a very good stroke in the BatLogic video...
maybe some of you are interested in the remarks of the rowerillustrated board regarding erging/shoes

Re: Batlogic erg adaptor
I have oly shoes, but the heel is pretty extreme for erging (I'd think anyway). It seems to me you'd want the foot flat, or if anything, the ball of your foot raised some so the energy is focused straight back vs up?

Re: Batlogic erg adaptor
Tried the oly shoes and they will not work for me. The shoes raise the heels too much, which places too much of the drive on the balls of the feet. You will get much better glute and hamstring activation (where the power is) if you drive off the heels. Just my experience though, may be different for others.

Morgan, have your throwing shoes came in yet? Interested to see how they work. I have been rowing and lifting in Vibrams for a few years now.

No, not yet. I've tried Vibrams and several other minimal shoes w/flat soles and nothing has worked as well for me as Adidas Samba soccer shoes. I have a pair of Crossfit Nano 2.0s (Reebok) that I also really like. I used to run in Vibrams frequently, but have went the other route and am now a die hard Hoka One One fan.dwalk wrote:Morgan, have your throwing shoes came in yet? Interested to see how they work. I have a pair of Hokas on right now and thinking of getting another pair since they have some lighter versions coming out. I have rowed in Inov8 f-lite195s and liked them, but they have gotten too worn out.
