Well it has been a challenging time here. Again yesterday I had a power outage that lasted the whole day and hit almost half way through the HM. I lost the fan of course so it was very hot in that little room. I made a go decision at 13K and actually made a little improvement over the last HM. Today I didn’t have the internet all day until late so I couldn’t upload my workout in a timely manner for this day. Man! So that’s 2 HMs. I will shoot for one more HM if I get the urge.

It is really great to see all the Luna-Tics who have completed the HM. A few have done 8 of them. That just blows my mind and makes my butt hurt just to think of it.
Have fun all and keep on rocking.

It's palindrome week....from 5/11/15 to 5/19/15 (US date writing conventions) the date read backwards and forwards reads the same. It is kind of fun to sit back (and feel like we're ahead of the game!) and watch our newscasters learn about what a palindrome is....we've known for years!!

On my way to Mesquite NV last week, I got a late start the day I left, encountered a bunch of rain, and decided to stay the night in Green River, UT. Some of you may remember our teammate Duluth Moose. One of his last canoe trips was along the Green River. In A forum posting, he suggested that if any of us ever happened to be in Green River, he highly recommended the River History Museum in Green River. I'd been by Green River several times, and had even stayed there once, but had not taken the time to stop in the museum. I took the time this year...and it was awesome. It has the kind of story that appeals to adventurers and explorers who want to go to the moon.

Turn back your history clocks to a time shortly after the Civil War ended. The year is 1869 and the map of the United States is well laid out....except for an empty space that runs from Wyoming down into Colorado. There is a presumption that the Green River, the largest tributary of the Colorado River, joins up with the Colorado somewhere....but no one has mapped the canyonlands. Enter John Wesley Powell (a one-armed Civil War veteran and geologist...) and a group of explorers with their four boats...and let the exploration begin. The museum shows a clip of their award-winning movie "Journey Into The Great Unknown." What an incredible adventure. If you are even within 100 miles of Green River, UT...make a stop. Spend the time. I'll be going back to see more of the exhibits.

Image Just two more days to make your mark...it's the first challenge of the season, and you can't do all of them if you don't do the first one....just sayin'

Image Well hula, hula....Minnie has joined the ranks of the Global Marathon Lite by throwing down a half marathon. Way to go, Minnie!

Richard T becomes our first Lunie to knock out THREE full marathons. I thought the moon was awfully bright there in the eastern part of the US, although that might have just been his way of working off the angst of Brady deflategate. Fortunately, the horses are getting prepped for the Preakness and there are more positive things to look toward.

It's kind of nice to get to have some "New Year's Resolutions" at the beginning of May ! It's a whole new erging year in Concept2 land, and the Lunies are off to a grand start. We've got a few folks who are on their own race to be the first to hit meter millionaire status. Then, there are those of us who looked at our meter piggy banks in dismay about April 10th and sighed...knowing that the stretch assignment to reach ONE million was a bit much. So don't get caught in the "woulda shoulda coulda" realm this year! Much easier to get on the path to whatever goal you have with a strong start - and who knows - you could surprise yourself with what is possible.

Season meters as of 12/365 = 4,816,804 m

Total meters on the day = 437,353 m

I just did my third HM. it got easier and easier each time. My time improved each time as well. so for you who have one under your belt, it may not be as hard the next time.
I did not try a second FM however. I won't this time. I bet it too gets easier.
Have fun

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 5.17.15

I'm not always a crossword puzzle aficionado - in fact, I am more likely to be drawn to the comics part of the page of the newspaper (unintentional pun, but still there). But today I was thinking about themes that crossword puzzles have, and noted that the NY Times puzzle's theme of today is something called Tom Swifties. And I did not know what Tom Swifties were.

Back in the day, I read all of the Tom Swift books. Good adventure stories with a scientific angle, albeit futuristic science most of the time. The author of the Tom Swift books, Victor Appleton, uses a style that I would call dramatic dialogue (I'm no English prof - we'll leave that to Jessica! - so what I call things isn't always right). Wiki, one of my favorite "resources", says that Appleton went to great lengths to avoid using the word "said" repeatedly - and that meant use of a lot of adverbs. This style led to a lot of puns - and one that Wiki says is a classic reference - is "We must hurry," said Tom Swiftly. So a Tom Swifty is a parody of the style that incorporates a pun. A couple of the true groaners are: I've lost my left ventricle, he said half-heartedly. Walk this way, Tom said stridently.

Some time ago, our resident artist AJ posted some photos of his "work on a puzzle while you row" set up. I couldn't find the photos, and wondered if he would post these again. You all might not be so interested in Tom Swifties, or crosswords, but many do finish up Suduko puzzles and the like. No time like when you're on the rowing machine....
