Feedback for a photo

Post by CannonFodder » April 12th, 2015, 9:25 am

Hi my name is Nick and I want to start rowing for a club in the future. I'm 37 years old and have started using an indoor rower to get fit enough to join a club . I'm going to post this picture and hope that anyone can tell me if it's any good . I've got the resistance just above 4. I have done 2000 meters on resistance 5 at 7:00.

Was that a warm-up? Or a serious row?

I had done a 2000 in 7:85 prior to doing that 4000 in the picture . So yes it was serious. I take it. It's slow ?? Remember I'm new to rowing.

Search for dragfactor (re level)
Look at the concept2 rankings to give you an idea what is good.
Your rating 35 (strokes per minute) is very high for the given pace. This points to an inefficient technique, you don,t use a full stroke.

Erging depends a lot on seize, how tall are you? Strong rowers are often tall 1.9/200 meters.

Oh? That's very interesting as I'm trying my best to get my technique right, but did think that I wasn't using a full stroke . I'm over 5f 7 inches tall. . I use resistance 4. On a concept 11 rower . I'll check concept 11 ratings out :)

Don't ignore Henri's advice to check up on drag factor. The damper setting is not the full story and it is not really a resistance in the usual sense. Check out the C2 home website. It has an enormous amount of information, including a page about the damper lever (Damper setting 101?). It takes a little surfing around on the site to get the full benefit of it, but it is worth doing. There is a lot there about technique, including a section about common errors and correcting them.

You reported a 2k time of 7:85, so I assume that it was a typo. If the 7 is correct, it could be OK. 7:00 is not a bad time for a short 37 year old man. However, 7:59 would be very slow. You didn't report your weight. At 5'7" you should be in the lightweight bracket (165# or less), otherwise there is a weight issue unless you are bulked up a lot from weight lifting.

I have done a 2000 meter at 7 :00. But never done it since. The 7:85 wasn't a typo. I've only been doing rowing for about 5 months now. So very new to it all.

My body build is athletic. And I'm a very dedicated person and I'm aiming to race for a club in the future. Plus I would never ever lie about any times I've done. :)

It must be a typo unless there are more than 60 seconds in a minute in your Universe.

Don't sweat it. Been there; done that. Often enough that I finally resorted to very careful proofing, especially numbers. Even so, an occasional screwup still sneaks in.
