You're dead on Bob (and congrats on the PR's and WR's...quite impressive!) Mythical may have been the wrong choice of words. I think what I was trying to convey was how hard it is to get it just right. In theory the last stroke should be......the last stroke! I keep trying to inch it down to get the perfect pace. I know one ting for sure...there's a huge price to be paid for going out too hard. I keep thinking my even splits will allow me something in reserve for a strong finish. I've been able to hold pace; but the sprints are non-existent.

Thanks, Edward. To me I looks like you have zeroed in very well on your best pace. On my own TTs, I have had some very strong sprints. Gratifying, perhaps, but clearly a sign that I have not paced them well at all. Unfortunately I am not in position to do a proper fine tuning, what with switching between the dynamic and grounded Ds, as well as doing the short pieces at sea level with everything else at 4000' of elevation.

5000m
17:33.1
1:45.3
Only my second attempt at this distance for time. Tough one to pace. My strategy was to negative split from 1:47, which turned out to be 1:46.7 for the first 250. Then you hang in there, going a little faster every split (set at 250m). Very tricky in the last 1500m. On a fine line between blowing up and leaving too much on the table. Great contrast to the 2k: It's like a slow-motion 10-car train derailment vs a real time 4-car chain-reaction highway wreck. Kind of.

2k at 7:08.8 at the Atlanta Erg Sprints.10 second improvement on my PB. It was a blast. Sat two ergs down from Charlie Brown who is too fast in my opinion. Very dry mouth at the moment.

Thanks guys. The one problem is now I have to readjust the longer rows time expectations based on Paul's Law and to be honest I wasn't hitting them on my previous time! I am going on a steady diet of long cardio rows for a month or so and maybe do 4X1000's w/5'R once a week - these are also tough for me.

G-Dub are you from Greenville Rowing? If so, I missed seeing Lowell.

Jim, I actually have never been in the joint, but when I started I wanted to give my meters to a real club near where I live in Asheville. You are too old and wise to be lectured by me, but in my humble opinion you need to be at the Atlanta Erg Sprints even if you are rowing one handed. We who live near Atlanta, and I actually grew up there, should participate so it continues to grow and get better. I personally missed seeing you in person and watching you go at it. Know what I mean?

I've actually visited the Greenville Row Club three times, twice to row, and once to get certified as a C2 instructor. Very nice, clean, well-run place. Lowell Caylor, ex-NFLer during the Jim Brown era, is owner/manager - great guy.

I suppose we all have our comfort zone in what we are doing in rowing, whatever that is. I've got to be there before I time trial in public. Chances are good that I'll be at the ATL Sprints next yr. Got some work to do though.

Not quite a PB, but I was still quite happy with my HM this past Friday.
I was feeling pretty good, and thought I would try to get to a 2:00 minute split for the distance.
As I was getting fairly far along, I thought I might even be able to get to 84 min.
I finished at 83:40. My only faster time was 83:35, and that was 11 years ago.

Only started rowing a couple of weeks ago. 2k pb last night was 6.56. Hoping for sub 6.30 by the British champs next year!

Wow, lost 5" over HM distance in a a decade+! You must be devastated, David. KIDDING! If i could do that, I'd be smiling.
