The Luna-Tics are definitely a welcoming bunch - and every metre counts. Join the challenge! We are very glad to have you with us.

I must have still been a little "gone" when I wrote that ... I actually didn't go "away" until September 2010.

Anyway, you get the idea ...

Apparently, it's not possible to go back and edit posts?

About the editing, you have about an hour to edit a post....and sometimes not even that if a reply is posted....

Image Day 9....and the Lunies are over FOUR million Challenge meters!!

Hooboy! As of this hour (10 AM MST 9 January), there are 328 teams participating in the Virtual Team Challenge, and 5,365 registered participants. There are 4,292 actual participants for an 80 percent participation rate. Overcoming Disabilities team is one of the FEW teams with 100 percent participation (Ariel Toy has 100 percent also). Lunies are at 88 percent currently, and hope that those who signed on remember that they signed on...and that those who haven't signed on remember that you can STILL sign on until the Cinderella hour on 15 January. New Haven has an 89 percent participation rate. It's good to have skin in the game so to speak.

If you want to be in the middle of the entire Concept2 Challenge "pack", you need to have accumulated greater than 22,300 m. If you want to be in the top ten percent, that number jumps to greater than 81,500 m....and maybe, just maybe....you want to be in the top 100 meter producers (and I think you can figure that one out). Right now, we have 5 Lunies in the top 100, New Haven has 2, and OD has a whopping 10 for two-thirds of their folks in for big meters. Exceptional performances all around - and YES, every meter counts whether you have the time and energy to produce the biggie meters or you contribute another amount....the most important thing is to contribute (frequently is good)!

The week leading up to December 14th, 2014, I had been planning on doing a 1/2 marathon that day with a cool down after to balance out to 26,000 meters; one thousand meters for each of 26 victims at Sandy Hook School in Newtown, CT. That day was the two year anniversary of the sad event. (If anyone doesn't know, after killing his mother in her home, a young man came into the school with a gun and killed 6 teachers and 20 kindergarten and first grade students.) Newtown is within ten miles of Oxford where I do my real life rowing. It is about 25 miles from my home. Sadly, that Friday- the anniversary, I tweaked my back. I was unable to row that weekend, so was not able to put in my memorial erg workout.

Image

It has bothered me that I never paid tribute in my own way. My back isn't perfect, but felt well enough to give it a go. I wasn't going for a personal best and it might have been a personal worst, but I did it. I did a 1/2 marathon plus a 4,903m cool down. Today was a good day to do that. In addition to honoring the memories of the teachers and children who are now angels, I earned my canoe and crossed the 7 million meter lifetime mark (at least based on what I've entered into Concept2. ). I erged many years prior to uploading my data.

Thanks for all the support and inspiration this team gives me.
Karyn

Image Day 10 in the Bubble Universe....and, while it "looks" like the teams are clumped together in twos and threes....there is some thought that the real challenge begins in the last two weeks! Get ready!

Wow! Another day of exceptional efforts! We have full moons, we have half moons, we have in between moons...and awesome teammates who are pulling strong to move their teams forward. And, we have some new canoeists! Congratulations to Minnie, David A and Karyn on reaching the 100K milestone and beyond!

All the Challenge teams have generated 180.6 million meters in the ten days that the Challenge has been underway. There are now 5,529 registered to "play", and 4488 actually playing. So far. Middle of the pack numbers need to be greater than 26,150 m and top ten percent need to be greater than 91,000 m...and the top 100....greater than 158,000 m. Whoa.
