Fortunately they didn't say DO NOT VISIT THE BATHROOM before your race FOR ANY REASON.<br /><br />When rowers miss the start of the race, it's a problem.<br />

You are allowed to adjust the damper setting on the flywheel if you like but DO NOT TOUCH THE PM3 monitor FOR ANY REASON. Ask the Lane Official to make any adjustments you need. </td></tr></table><br /><br />Don't heats at an event need to start in a timely manner? If a verbal "sit at attention, ready to row" or its equivalent had been given, according to CIRC rules all competitors were supposed to sit still (waiting for the race computer to begin the countdown as soon as it sensed that all the flywheels had stopped spinning). Had I been the Lane Official in question, after any such starter command I probably wouldn't have honored a request to change the display either. And as C2Scott points out, once the "Stop/Prepare To Row" command appears on the screen and the automatic pre-race sequence starts the monitor display can't be changed even if you want to. <br /><br />Mind you, I wasn't in Toronto and don't know diddly about what did/didn't happen when. I do however think it a bit unfair to castigate the organizers (whom I don't know from Adam and/or Eve) without hearing their side of things. Maybe someone from St. Catherine's Rowing can clarify matters.<br /> </td></tr></table><br /><br /><br />I fully understand that but for starters I think that rule is dumb and secondly I ASKED my lane official to adjust it but she would not do so. I asked her twice both times with her replying sorry the monitor cant be touched, finally after my race I went and changed it to see my split and she grabbed my shoulder and said to me almost angry DONT TOUCH THE MONITOR! Mind you the kid next to me on my right had his monitor set to average split, how is that fair if we both cant touch the monitor nor supposibly can our lane officials but his is set differently, that doesnt seem like a fair race to me but I guess in the US thats different for you guys... <br /><br />If that happened to you hardcore ergers at the Crash-B's wouldnt you be a little annoyed since thats your big race seeing how as though you never venture onto the water but I mean erging is what rowing is all about isnt it? No its not, I cant stand these hardcore ergers that seem to think that there all that because all they do is erg and never in there lives will they touch a boat because there scared or whatever it maybe of the water where truely rowing is done, not on the erg. Notice how the Crash-B's doesnt live up to even like SRAA or CSSRA and those are high school national regattas and the crash-b's are suppose to be the WORLD sprints? Thats because ergs dont float and ergs dont mean everything but some of you will never understand that.<br /><br />Lastly do me a favour mr.arrogant, spell the name of my city correctly, thanks <br /><br />Poor racing rules, plain and simple!

I know. My wife was born there, my nephew rows for the St. Catharines Club each summer, and I lived in Toronto where 1 out of every 2 people wouldn't spell it correctly.

Thank you for your measured and temperate response.<br /><br />I now have a much better understanding of the situation, and the probable root cause of your problem.<br /><br />

First, you busted on Americans (" ... that doesnt seem like a fair race to me but I guess in the US thats different for you guys ... ), then you busted on people who erg but don't row on the water (" ... and never in there lives will they touch a boat because there scared or whatever it maybe of the water where truely rowing is done ... "), and finally you showed your immaturity by saying, "Lastly do me a favour mr.arrogant, spell the name of my city correctly, thanks."<br /><br />Who do you think you are to say such things?<br /><br />You probably missed the sarcasm in Nav's response. His point, I believe, is that if you were as arrogant and rude to the lane official as you were to him (and now me) here, she probably decided you weren't worth her time, and stuck it to you at the race. An eye for an eye so to speak.<br /><br />You probably think that's not fair, but that's life. If you did respond and react to the official similar to the way you did to Nav and I here, you're likely to be complaining about races like this for a long time to come. You'll forever be the guy who got "screwed" by some official, some rule, some thing.<br /><br /><!--quoteo(post=55424:date=Feb 9 2006, 09:01 PM:name=Rate35)--><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><div class='genmed'><b>QUOTE(Rate35 @ Feb 9 2006, 09:01 PM) </b></div></td></tr><tr><td class='quote'><!--quoteo(post=55406:date=Feb 9 2006, 07:06 PM:name=mpukita)--><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><div class='genmed'><b>QUOTE(mpukita @ Feb 9 2006, 07:06 PM) </b></div></td></tr><tr><td class='quote'><!--quoteo(post=55396:date=Feb 9 2006, 05:48 PM:name=Rate35)--><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><div class='genmed'><b>QUOTE(Rate35 @ Feb 9 2006, 05:48 PM) </b></div></td></tr><tr><td class='quote'>Lastly do me a favour mr.arrogant, spell the name of my city correctly, thanks <br /> </td></tr></table><br />That's a childish response ... you're 16 ... grow up ... it's not uncommon for St. Catharines to be spelled improperly, even by Canadians. Hey Rate35 I understand your beef. It does seem unfair that if they were not going to let you change the settings that all the machines were not set the same way. But...thats racing, stuff like that goes on all the time with on the water racing too. It certainly gives crews something to gripe about at the end of the day. <br /><br />Dont dis on the erg folks too hard. You my friend are very very lucky to live in a part of the world that has such an active rowing community. As a kid living on the west coast we used to talk about going to "St. Kits" like that was the highest achivement we could imagine. You have some of the best racing in north america in your back yard. Some folks dont have a rowing club within 100 miles from their home and so they erg, it does not make them any less dedicated.,
