I dreamed last night that I went to the Crash B's. It was held in an absolutely enormous, dark, dingy dirty highschool gym, and you had to bring your own erg. If you didn't, there was a pile of dusty rusty old B's and A's in the corner you could haul out for your race. Everyone's ergs were set up at crazy angles all over the place, some so close together you could hardly walk around without smacking your shins. And we all had to sleep in this gym so it was all full of sleeping bags and back packs. People had modified their ergs with blocks and stuff and this was allowed. John Rupp had made a contraption that you strapped on your back that had propeller blades on it that was somehow connected to the flywheel with a wire and he insisted that this would make him faster.

All of a sudden they turned out the lights and announced it was bedtime, so we all had to find someplace to lay down or sit on our ergs to try to sleep. And then these officials with lab coats and a clip board came around with a flash light and woke people up randomely to measure things on them--it was different for each person, like the circumfrence of their ankles or the lenght of their noses, and they wrote it on the clip board and muttered. Later on other officials came in with different colored lab coats and they took people out one by one. We didn't know why but eventually most people were pretty awake and it turned out that that was when your race was. You got dragged off to this little room and did your 2K then with no warm up, and your time was averaged with the measurements they took earlier, and that was your score.

Thank goodnes I woke up before it was my turn.

Obviously I have some issues with public competition!

I think you've had a premonition that the entire CRASH-B venue will be abducted by aliens. Those "lab coats" on the "officials" were just hiding the symbiotic parasite heads growing out of their alien chests. And they were doing a lot more in that back room before the races began - 3 months after CRASH-B, all the male contestants are going to find out that they're pregnant . With alien babies

The exact same thing happened at last years Amazon Ice Fishing World Championships. I read about it in the Weekly World News.

But seriously, I think you have a wonderfully vivid imagination. You should go to CRASH-B just to compare the reality to the dream.

Carla,

I know what has caused your problem. You went to the NE2KC and watched but didn't race. You said you were planning to go the CRASH-Bs as a spectator. Wrong!

The only way to exorcise this demon is to go to the CRASH-Bs and race. Then your spirit will be free again and no more nightmares.

Frank
Go for it Carla.

I went last year, expecting to get smoked, and I did get smoked (something like 17th of 19, I think). But I had a blast. Besides the erg race, it's fun seeing all the people and hearing the different languages. I don't get international exposure much.

http://members.ttlc.net/~ebolton/05crashB.htm

I had provided an honest time for the seeding, and got placed appropriately so the heat was a real race for me.

I signed up for this year right after I got home Sunday.

Regards,

Ed
