HRM For Erg PM5

Post by Romper » December 2nd, 2014, 9:50 pm

I need to buy a new HRM To link in with my PM5 on my C2E Erg.

I am looking at the polar Wearlink+ and the Polar H7, but open to any other suggestions.

Key criteria - good battery life, good customer support, comfortable strap system and solid connectivity.

I am also looking for a HRM for the PM5. I am seriously considering the Mio Link. It is a wrist monitor. There are reviews that are critical about its accuracy but then there are reviews that contend it is as accurate as a chest style. Anyone have any experience with this monitor?

The WearLink+ with Bluetooth won't work. It uses Bluetooth 2 and the PM5 requires Bluetooth 4/Low Energy/Smart.

The H7 is a fine choice.

I purchased the Garmin from C2 when I ordered my D model PM5 last month. So far, I have been very happy with it. I have not had it fail to read.

When I talked to C2 on the phone they recommended the Garmin if I planned to just use the strap with the rower since they had a bit better luck with it over the Polar. They said to get the Polar if I wanted to use the strap with other devices.

I chose a Polar H7 and it works well so far with the PM5. I am used to Polar products, especially the chest strap ones.

Polar says H7 Battery Life = 360 Hours

My experience is that is probably pretty accurate, replacement batteries are ~$4

H7 transmits both Bluetooth Smart (low energy) & Polar GymLink analog signals

Thanks.

I am keen on the H7, but also have a new spin bike without any dedicated bike computer yet.

I do nto want to use the iPhone or any of it's apps, but just a dedicated monitor for the bike - thoughts?

A bit off topic i know but see how we go....

The only "issue" I have is that I simply cannot figure out if the H7 will pair with both the PM5 AND the iPhone 5.

When the H7 is paired to the iPhone 5, it cannot pair to ythe PM5 and vice versa.

I do not think that it's possible but Polar and C2 says it is.

Any suggestions?

This would be the only "downfall" of the H7. I don't "need" to have it go to the IPhone when rowing but it would n
Be nice.

That's a Bluetooth limitation. A client (iPhone 5, PM5) can connect to multiple servers (H7) but a server can only connect to a single client.

Regarding the H7 pairing via Bluetooth to multiple devices at the same time; I had the same question as I use a Polar M400 for tracking/recording training. I contacted Polar and they informed me that the H7 will only connect to "one" bluetooth device at a time.

i would look on craigslist or ebay for a used polar cycling computer; i picked up an old CS100 for $60. the cs100 has rudimentary tracking functions, speed, distance etc... with appropriate sensors -AND- will pickup & display polar H7 analog heart rate signal.

PM3 for the win!

I have an H7 and it sends ANT+ to the PM3 and pairs by BT to my iphone. It's a bummer that the PM5 doesn't support the same functionality.
