Wondering how long I should wait before I start rowing after I had a heart cath last week? According to release papers I am good to go with everything after 5 days. Has anyone else had same experience?
TIA,

Rowing after Heart Cath
Re: Rowing after Heart Cath
I am a doctor and I am giving medical advice:
Actually, I've already had 6 beers today for all you know.
There's a group on the web called Cardiac Athletes. They are easy to find with an online forum and Facebook group. It is probably the best resource for someone trying to return to exercise with any concerns about heart health.
It looks like you are cleared to exercise and I'd just caution you to not return to full speed all at once.

Re: Rowing after Heart Cath
Thanks Quatroux - the cath turned out fine and I just finished my first 1 MILLION meters right before the procedure but am cautious about the stress on my artery where the sheath was inserted. I planned on waiting till the 1 month checkup but am anxious to get back to normal. And you're right I don't know what state of intoxication you're in when typing to me, lol.
Re: Rowing after Heart Cath
The best advice is to wait the five days recommended, then start slowly. I had a single stent inserted 7 years ago (you said you only had a 'cath', but it sounds like you also had a stent inserted permanently) and I started up with exercise a little too quickly - no adverse effects, but my body reminded me. Give the stent time to 'set' in its new home, and follow doctor's orders. You don't want to overstress your system and have the stent move. Seven years later, I am more active and healthier than I was before - due to a number of factors.
Re: Rowing after Heart Cath
Thanks Lobo for your response. I didn't have a stent and the only thing they had on the release papers was to wait 5 days for lifting more than 5 lbs and pushing or pulling. I'm just hesitant that I want to be sure the artery won't blow doing such strenous activity as rowing. I am drenched in sweat after I row, I think I'm going to start back rowing but just take it slow.
