This thread is too quiet, so I'll offer a result: 6:33.8 today, a PB by 1 second. This time I held 1:38 pace (1:37.8 I think) up until about 600 meters to go, and then slowed to 1:40 the rest of the way. Just couldn't go any faster, no matter what I did. Based on how long I was gasping for air afterwards, I'd say I gave it my all. 35/36 spm until I got tired and dropped to 34 spm. I think my form was good at the start, with a strong leg drive, but I only remember thrashing about at the end. I guess that's what happens when one gets too tired in a race.

That's 6:37.5, 6:34.8, and 6:33.8, all within one week. I've been coughing steadily since the first race, have no more energy, and have probably reached my peak. So now's a good time to start my off-season program with steady distance and various cross-training. This morning I weighed 162 pounds, so I figure I could stand to add a couple pounds of muscle to maybe improve my 2K times. If nothing else I'll look and feel better.

Let's hear some more race results - there must be some out there...

Great lightweight time Doug. If you can hang onto that speed until next year you should be in the hunt for a medal at CRASH-B's.

I had a good race yesterday at Brockton. Not a PB, but within a second at 6:55.9. Had splits of 1:44.2, 1:44.2, 1:44.0, 1:43.5. Drag at 121 and stroke rate at 36, creeping up to 40 by the final thrash to the finish. I hope to be able to hold on to this for one more week and not get stage fright at CRASH-B's.

Rick

There's nothing like a controlled max effort. All the best next week. Sorry I won't be there to cheer you on.
MM

May as well enter a result on here to keep the thread going!
Competed yesterday in a very small comp, Surrey IRC, slightly
south of London, UK...wanted a bit of a prep race before Boston....
Was the only 30-39 LWT...and raced at about 85%..and managed
a 6.36.8...went to the plan of being sub 6.40 fairly comfortably...

Also had the last interval sesh before Boston, and was full out
at lunchtime today...4 x 4mins (3 mins rest ) overall average
of 1.39.9... was very pleased with this, best session for a couple
of months!...makes me feel a bit more confident of being nearer
6:30-32 in Boston, nowhere near my PB of 6.27.1 back in October though!

First 3k relay raced in the US (Arizona Indoor Rowing Championships). Winning time: 8:32 (1:25.3 pace). Fifty-one seconds behind the WR time of the Brits. We'll get 'em next time.

Dwayne

The more you practice, the more slick the changeovers will be. As your changeovers improve, the times will drop by a lot!

Did anyone film it? Would be great to see if possible. Otherwise if it was done on e-row then are there any race replays. They're always good fun to watch!!

Jon

I rowed in the Pittsburgh Indoor Championship, a qualifer site for the Crash-B's. This was my first indoor regatta and first 2000 meter race. I got a personal best of 6:16.8. Against what seems to be the popular advise I went out hard for the 1st 200 meters, seetled into a pace, and had about a 200 meter kick at the end. I have been rowing for a little bit over a year and love the sport. I want to go to Boston sometime although it won't be this year.

Yeah if you had 2 changeover mistakes you could have lost anything upto 10 sec there. The other factor is what the pace slips to during changeover. If someone's pulling around 1:15-1:20, then a good solid changeover should have the clock only slip to about 1:25-1:30 before getting back down to speed. At least, that's what we tried to do most of the time

If you wanted, some of our 100k practice sessions are on VHS. I might be able to put them onto NTSC VHS tapes for you to have a look at. I could always pick up an NTSC VHS blank tape in Boston this weekend to get it done if wanted.

Let me know.

Cheers

Jon
