And to finish my thought, these posts challenging Dwayne follow at least 2 posts earlier in the year challenging the Brits and talking smack generally. One was in good fun, but one if I remember correctly questioned the legitimacy of Graham Benton's gold medal (crash-bs 04?) in around 5:50, because Dwayne was not in the race (I don't remember who started that thread). I think Andreas at least is entitled to know where he stands in the world relative to 40+ heavyweights.

I see this issue other way around, although I don't have any reason to question Dwayne's times, including the witnessed 5:47, I don't think there is any basis to challenge the significance or legitimacy of those who show up at major competitions and win either.

I have been reading this topic with interest. I do not mean to be the eternal cynic but everyone refers to Dwayne's time being witnessed by officials from C2. I am just curious if anyone has ever met these officials or just taking Dwayne's word for it like his time. If he has pulled 5:47 then great good for him no skin off my nose. I just thought I would ask the question as everybody keeps shouting this off as evidence of the time.

Keep the arguments up as it makes interesting reading.

Paul.

Dwayne Adams is reading this post. I wonder why he doesn't react.

Maybe I wouldn't either if I was him. I can think of no argument that would convince the people that doubt his times.

Tom

if he wants to end questions about legitimacy - CRASH-B is a wonderful opportunity. Then again, he may not care...lots of people here surely do thats for sure...

I don't know why I got dragged into this thread, but now I can't find the previous thread I remember challenging Graham Benton's gold medal win in the absense of Dwayne Adams in the race (they were both 30+ heavies last year). For those questioning the validity of the 5:47 time, after searching the forums, I would point out that DA made the USIRT a couple of times (2002 and 2003?), which required qualifying rows before an official selected by C2. Here is an example from a post in the archived forum. The "problem" as I understand the history is that he didn't end up rowing in either competion.

QUOTE

Here is the 2003 U.S. Indoor Rowing Team:

Women/ Age/ ace Category/ Time/Qualify/ Time Rowed
Kelly Foster / 18/ 18 Heavyweight/ 7:00.0/ 6:50.2
Alison Cox/ 24/ 19-29 Heavyweight/ 6:41.0/ 6:34.8
Lisa Schlenker/39/ 19-29 Lightweight/ 7:04.0/ 7:02.6
Joan Van Blom/ 51/ 50-59 Lightweight/ 7:42.0/ 7:29.7
Barbara Pike/ 62/ 60-69 Heavyweight/ 8:01.0/ 7:48.4
Luanne Mills/ 64/ 60-69 Lightweight/ 8:22.0/ 8:12.2

Men/ Age/ Race Category/ Time/Qualify/ Time Rowed
Jamie Schroeder/22/ 19-29 Heavyweight/ 5:47.0/ 5:45.2
Dwayne Adams/ 39/ 30-39 Heavyweight/ 5:55.0/ 5:49.1
Mike Connors/ 44/ 40-49 Heavyweight/ 6:10.0/ 6:08.6
Mike Caviston/ 42/ 40-49 Lightweight/ 6:23.0/ 6:22.4
T.J. This is my last reply on this ISSUE

The IRONY of it all is, even that time of 5:49.1 was a claim made by DA(apparently it was done at a small race in Arizona but no proof of this could be found)

The whole C2 world ranking idee is based on integrity, thats why you just need one finger to get a ranking(dont even have to brake a sweat).C2 want to trust people(my opinion)

On the other hand C2 is going thru a lot of trouble to orginize these wonderfull events.I realy want to praise them for that, and this is where we, that are competitive, can go and do our thing.

Hopefully Dwayne will still be at CRASH-B to do his thing

Ok...I think I've put up with this noise long enough.

So Andreas, you say you want to race me? Well...do ya punk (stole that from Dirty Harry)?!

Here's your chance. I'll be doing three regattas before Edmonton in July. One: Desert Sprints, February 26-27 here in Phoenix (this one might not happen due to the lake possibly being closed). Two: Peter Archer Spring Regatta, March 20, Long Beach, Ca. Three: Gold Rush Masters Regatta, May 21, Sacramento, Ca.

Then of course there's Master's World in July. You've got your choice. Get in a boat and race, or keep your freekin' cake hole shut.

Dwayne is 40 so that makes him class B. Your a C aren't you Paul? Andreas is 43 so he's a C also. Unless there are low numbers of entries you'd never meet in a race. Even then a handicap would be applied to Dwayne ( unless his doubles partner is much older).

Andreas is a kayaker or canoeist and has never rowed on water before, so racing him might be difficult.

However, I'm willing to take Dwayne on in a double scull. His 2K ergo PB maybe just under 30 seconds faster than mine, but as ergs don't float, my 18-20 years experience on water should even things out a bit. I'm a class C also though, so Dwayne would have to take a handicap.

I'm hoping to race at the World Masters also. Just trying to get a suitable partner organized.

Dwayne if you really want to race Andreas, fair and square, you'd have to do it on Rowpro. Then it would be recorded, stroke for stroke, or should I say blow for blow, forever.

Keep it smooth, keep it relaxed
Roland Baltutis
