Does Concept2 actually monitor any ranked logs? I see that a 15 year old girl from Florida has beaten everyone in the half marathon!

I'm pretty sure that Dwayne metioned that he is concentrating now on working with his 2x partner toward the goal of winning at the 2005 Masters Worlds that will be coming up this summer in Canada. While Erg times are a fun diversion for rowers to make comparisons and talk a lot of "smack" about among each other, when you are sitting at the start line in a boat, in a little more than 3 minutes, you are going to find out if that Erg work was worth it or not.

Ergs don't float, Chains don't slip, and boats can't be cheated.

He has never come across as being "full of himself" as far as I can tell, but maybe that's all a matter of perspective, "If you can do it, it ain't bragg'in", though it may seem like it for those that find the performance "unbelievable" for whatever reason.

Top erg performances may well be some of the most closely guarded secrets in elite rowing, no-one at the top of their game ever gives specifics, or obliterates their competition more than is required to win the race. Pain is the same for elite rowers and if they can win without suffering greatly they will do it, afterall it's the win that gets remembered, not the time. OTOH, you cannot "win" against the Erg, it is always there to provide whatever pain you are prepared to endure.

I thought that Dwayne's incredible 2 km time was witnessed by 2 indoor racing officials, which might be why it is listed as 'race' rather than 'ind'.

David
Was the 5:49 from 2004 a race result or not?

I believe it was done with race officials observing, but was not against other ergers at the same time. (He might have been faster, as is common, if racing others.)
