I've set more than 30 PBs in three months, and have set various PBs on consecutive. OK, being a beginner explains it to an extent, but it doesn't mean any of them were falsely claimed. <br><br>Or would someone like to accuse me of falsifying times, too?

I think it is possible to set PBs on consecutive days if they are not maximum efforts for that person. I think anyone would be faster over a given distance if they tapered and sharpened for that distance over a couple of weeks in advance of the race. So these times, as fast as they are, may just be what Dwayne can do any given day of the week if he tries. We know the 2k time at world record pace was real, since that was witnessed and verified.<br><br>I think this just builds the hype for the crash-bs, and if I was a possible world record holder, I wouldn't alter my training for anyone. I may just have to drive down and watch the fun in Boston in person.

I don't think there is any argument to Dwayne's dedication to rowing.<br>If only the rest of us could devote the time he does to this sport.<br>We should all make that a goal for the new year.

I think we would all be better served concentrating on the reality of our own performances rather than twittering over the veracity of times done by someone of superior performance, ability and character. His world record has been ratified. The rest simply follows.<br><br>Maybe if we believed in our own possibilities rather than try to tear down someone else's actualities...

<br>Certain top level C2 achievers have conditioned themselves to handle incredible volumes of work at a very high intensity. <br><br>Ranger's 2 hrs of warmup alone is more than any of my sessions. This, as he has stated before is what works best for him (and obviously does). <br><br>Dwayne combines incredible C2 speed and duration, as well as weights and detailed supplementation (see previous nutrition threads). <br><br>I am equally as dedicated to my training for on-water performance, however training for 3+ hours a day is out of the question. With this in mind i have learnt to periodize my training priorities so that i can peak for a race, and in the off season focus on improving any weaknesses. <br><br>We are all genetically and physiologically different and what works for one athlete may not work for another. However certain components of all the best C2 performers maybe able to be adapted to any individuals training.<br><br>For those who are intersted my last 12 months looked some thing like this:<br><br>Oct 03 - Jan 04 - 4 weight sessions a week (mostly heavy, 5-8 reps, all compound exercises, never working the same muscle group more than twice per week strength is the priority), 2 CV sessions a week, 60min very low intensity.<br><br>Feb 04 - May 04 - 3 weight sessions a week (less resistance, 9-12 reps, all compound exercises, each workout uses only 4-5 exercises, no workout uses the same exercises as the workout before, power is the priority), 3-4 CV sessions per week 45-60 min building up the intensity, 2-3 C2 plus 1-2 on water.<br><br>June 04 - Sept 04 - 2 weight sessions a week (less resistance, 15+ reps, all compound exercises, each workout uses only 4-5 exercises, no workout uses the same exercises as the workout before, muscular endurance and speed are now the priority). CV, the Aussie Surfrowers program, plus 3 sessions per week on water. <br> <br>Sept 23 Ready for World's.<br><br>All that i know for sure is that hard work is the key to any success and there is no way to avoid it when it comes to achieving your best on the C2.<br><br>Best<br>GW<br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br>

fwiw when I was training 3 hours a day I was doing at least 2 hours at UT steady state, covering 30-40K per day.<br><br>In addition to that, I was also doing at least 4 or 5 faster sessions per week, varied between 60mins/30min/10K/5K. As my training progressed I was breaking my 10K PB consistently once or twice a week followed by bringing my 5K PB down, even at one time getting a 5K PB the day after getting a 5K PB... and getting a 2K PB 2 days later.<br><br>I had a period of about 2 months where I was getting new PB's fairly regularaly, and even when I wasn't getting a new PB I was very close to PB pace.<br><br>If I get back to that level of fitness again I will take the opportunity to try and get as many PB's as I can while I am on form, starting with the longer distances and working down to 2K.<br><br>I think those results look perfectly reasonable based on my own training from when I was doing 40K+ per day.<br><br>[edit] Obviously I was a lot slower

Dwayne, have you ever been approached to row on the water for USA? <br><br>I know that your age may be against you but your performance over every distance is still way in excess of that which I believe any professional rower in the world could currently manage. And you still obviously have no problem with training volumes.<br><br>The amazing thing is that you're not just a sprinter or a plodder as your times are beyond world class at every distance (I'm still quicker over 500m though - hehe, and unusually close over the half marathon but I think I fluked that time). <br><br>I can't believe that you wouldn't be worth a place in the middle of any 8 given what you could contribute to the boat.

I'm currently in training for the Master World's in Edmonton next July.<br><br>As far as the 500 goes. You da man there!!! Dwayne, I was aware that you rowed on the water but didn't realise you were doing so well in that too. Good luck with the Masters. I definitely think you could still kick some arse in the main squad though! Did you start rowing because of your performances on the C2 or get into the C2 through rowing? How long have you been on the water?
