Hunh, interesting. Maybe, if I start now, I can row over there, by 2019!Drivetofast wrote:Chris you may be in Luck. Michael Lang says there is a possible 50th Woodstock in the works for 2019
My camping standards have changed somewhat since I was a teenager:
There'd have to be a Woodstock Hyatt in the vicinity.
Definitely no mud involved; don't get me started on porta potties.
Beads and flowers are still nice, of course!

Another episode....
Dog Days of Summmmmr it may be, yet there are bunny trails of the mind to share! The traffic up I-70 from Denver to the mountains is notoriously slow and go at this time of year, and has prompted widening of the twin tunnels that go through Idaho Springs. Long term, the addition of one more lane each way may assist... some. Many ask for some kind of light rail system to transport folks up to the mountain towns and reduce the overall volume. But I digress, which is what a bunny trail does. This weekend, decided that instead of fighting the traffic volume for an extra hour coming down from the mountains back to Denver, that we would take Trail Ridge Road from the west portal (Grand Lake) of the Rocky Mountain National Park to the east portal (Estes Park). Trail Ridge is one of the highest paved roads in the US, and rocks an elevation of 12,000 plus. This altitude is not for everyone. A few years ago, friends from Oregon came through Denver and wanted to see RMNP. The altitude made one of them absolutely goofy - confused, some headache. We had to get him down to lower altitude quick. BUT...for those who can take the altitude, it is a stunning panorama. Below are some photos taken during the climb up from 8000 to 12000 + ft. You start with the alpine meadows, then start seeing some wonderful alpine lakes - they look so inviting and yet inaccessible - , then comes the first saddle and you find yourself quickly approaching lava cliffs and BIG mountains. Cool stuff. Next year is the 100th anniversary of RMNP, and the celebrations will start this September. Hope you enjoy.
Alpine meadows
The gray tree areas are where the beetle kill has occurred. This is one reason that the fire fighting units in the Grand Lake area really jump on any fires. It would burn down the village if this part of the park flamed out.
Elk often on these mountain sides....they were below treeline yesterday
The first saddle
These saddles freak out drivers with the sheer drop offs on either side....hooboy!
Closer to summit
Wowzer !!

Dog Days...tomorrow ends week 3....get 'er done !
There are days, dog and otherwise, when I wonder if I am cheering all of you on...or myself...and maybe it is both. And I have found some irony in finally deconstructing Nic's bunk beds (she moved past those long ago, but apparently I felt it necessary to keep them), and giving them to another family with young girls in the neighborhood. The irony is that now in college, Nic is again sleeping in a bunk bed....it was hard giving up those bunk beds. I know...you've all been there.
