Armando - I agree that it is likely not a highly recorded distance in the rowing world. I'm sure there are some that can go faster, but I'm not sure about many many...
1.10.5 is the best ever, there are some 1.13 guys, but the problem is top rowers don,t train for 500, so there are not much top guys doing it.

Apart from that, this 1.17 was certainly not 100%, with better pacing and not slowing down completely he can pull better for sure.

Let's keep in mind power (watts) are exponential, unlike a split. So even a one second difference at that speed is huge.

There is a 37 watt difference between a 1:15 and a 1:16, while there is a 15 watt difference between a 1:30 and a 1:31
PBs: 2k 6:09.0 (2020), 6k 19:38.9 (2020), 10k 33:55.5 (2019), 60' 17,014m (2018), HM 1:13:27.5 (2019)

Old PBs: LP 1:09.9 (~2010), 100m 16.1 (~2010), 500m 1:26.7 (~2010), 1k 3:07.0 (~2010)

No doubt... 500m is not a commonly tested time in the rowing world. I don't think I ever recorded it but I wish I knew what my best 500m would have been in my prime rowing days.
