When I came to the site today, I got this message...

QUOTE

Board Message

Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.
The error returned was:

You do not have permission to view this board

I had to log in to view the board. Then I noticed some other changes. Like 'View New Posts' is now on the right side of the screen, yesterday it was on the left side. A new banner at the top. Obviously an update to the board, but why make it not viewable if you're not logged in?

I had several virus warnings while visiting the forum yesterday. Thought they were "my own" viruses...
Think I like the new outfit, but still have to get used to it.
Is there any relation between the change in the outfit and the virus attack? :?

BTW, I have had difficulties to post this answer, it has worked after the 3rd try

Where are the links to "Active posts" and "Quick view"??

I have to log in to access the forum, and the log-in doesn't give me the option of remaining invisible. Yet Board statistics reveal that there are guests lurking around, as well as an anonymous user.

Is there some end-run of the log-in page that these people are using? If so, what is it? Or is the forum fix a work in progress? I hope mandatory log in isn't permament. No one needs to know when I'm reading a ranger thread :P

I am now getting all those unwanted messages. I checked out that page and it seemed normal. Just to make sure, I clicked on update, but I am still getting the messages from the members that are listed as being in the ignore file.

regards,

Bob S.

I'd like to make a suggestion about the board, if changes are going to be made. I think it would be in our best interests if you remove the "Invision Power Board v2.1.4 © 2006 IPS, Inc." message from the bottom of the forum pages.

Most hacks and exploits that are leveraged against common forum software are qualified by the version numbers of the software that they impact. So if a particular hacker is interested in doing some damage and has an exploit that works when used against IPB v2.0.3, he needs to find a way to locate fora that are running that particular version. Our forum is a rather large target for hackers because it's indexed by Google and every page of the forum has the software version number printed on it.

Today's Google search for "Invision Power Board v2.0.3" puts the C2 forum as the 4th result. The site would be less of a target if a search for an IPB version didn't find it at all.

Mike

good plan to remove the tag - but the forum editing software won't allow it...

QUOTE(haboustak @ Feb 10 2006, 12:07 PM)

I'd like to make a suggestion about the board, if changes are going to be made.
