That was awesome. Probably won't see it again. Also happy to see Jason Khalipa make it to the podium.
And on the women's side, I was happy to see Camille Leblanc-Bazinet finally get her win. I was kind of rooting for Julie Foucher, and it was nice to see her on the podium. And it was good to see Iceland Annie back in form. Love the Crossfit Games.

Greetings All,
Just a note to let you all know I am still out here. A couple of things have kept me off the rower for a few days. I had a Civil War encampment Friday, Saturday and Sunday. But the big news is that we have adopted a new dog. He is a rescue dog and what ever happened to him has left him very timid and shy. It has been almost a full time job, building his trust and helping him to feel secure. Ironically enough, he was given the name "Rambo" :? He is one and half and has been in the system since he was 5 months old. He was passed over many times because of his fear and shyness. Lyn and I have always been drawn to the underdog (no pun intended  ). Our first greyhound had been passed over, because she was 4 years old-old for a greyhound coming from the track and our second greyhound was passed over because she had some significant scars on her sides.
Rocky (we rechristened him with another Stallone character  ) is maybe a cross between lab and spaniel, but I think there may be some beagle in the mix too. He weighs less than half of what Hannah did.
Miss rowing and being on the site. Hope to get back in the swing soon.
Ron

All In A Few Days of Erging: Team Progress Thru 7.29.14

Post by Kona2 » July 30th, 2014, 11:30 am

Image Another episode....camping

I'm not a great fan of camping (and would surely not do well at an encampment enactment using the traditional tools of the Civil War era), yet friends persisted and off we all went on Sunday. We were going into the Wilderness, and there would be Bears. And moose. On our way to the Wilderness, we passed through a town called Loveland, home to the "we stamp your Valentines" tradition that we've talked about before here. Loveland puts on an annual invitational sculpture show, and following that show, many of the pieces take up residence in Loveland. This year's show is the second weekend in August. http://www.sculptureinthepark.org/show/information

Image Mosaic giraffe from a previous show...caught my eye as we zoomed through Loveland.

Onward, to set up tents we went. This turned out to be a humorous affair for some, as the age old truism of "more brains and hands" make a job easier once again proved true. We were off the beaten path, but still in an area with rustic campgrounds. We'd been warned not to keep food in tents, and to lock it (and any trash) up in vehicles. Twilight gave us all a treat of several moose with calves making their way down to the river after 60 yards from us. Haven't had a chance to check that camera to see if those images will show up...the light was tough for pictures. Starry skies abounded. Listened for lots of twig snaps and such, but didn't see any Bears. I know they were there, though! Daylight showed some good meadows and some great drop offs (area is used year round and has a series of tubing runs with good names like Geronimo...and Dead Man Drop). Hiking at altitude makes for tired campers.

Image Image

As we prepared to depart, we discovered that leaving hatch open on vehicles drains the batteries. Of both vehicles. Quickly. This was a pretty good lesson. However, one more prepared camper brought a nifty item that not only charged up cell phones....it started both vehicles. Who knew?! Not an advertisement for this particular item (although it IS highly recommended).

Running a golf tourney on Thursday, so was not the most opportune time to take off into the Wilderness...gotta take your opportunities when they arrive, though!

Meanwhile...onward the team rowed!

Season meters as of 90/365 = 20,409,959 m

Total meters on the days = 682,963 m

Teammates in the boat = 85

Log Card Life Expectancy

Post by just27 » July 30th, 2014, 4:28 pm

I'm sure that our log cards are getting more abuse, now that Juliette swaps them out, every week ... but another one died, last night. I think that's five we've bought, through the ages (seven years, maybe), and there are three regular users. No big deal, I was just wondering how often others need to replace their log cards?

Rocky is a lucky dog to have found such a great forever home!

Quite the adventures, K2! As for speculations about where that giraffe sculpture might take up residence, I wouldn't be surprised to find periodically sitting outside of some college dorm.

Congratulations, DavidA on 1MM ! I'm right behind you.

And congratulations on the new kid in the house, Ron !
Since Rocky is a little shy, I thought this line from Rocky to Adrian might be worth a mention:
I think we make a real sharp couple of coconuts - I'm dumb, you're shy, whaddaya think, huh?

(Hey, I'm not implyin nuttin, you know what I mean.)

Yo Appollo, what're you doing here?

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 7.30.14

Post by Kona2 » July 31st, 2014, 7:26 am

Image Starts tomorrow !

The Dog Days of Summer runs from August 1–28 and features a different total distance goal each week.

The Details

Row or ski, indoors or outdoors, completing each of the following four distance goals during the timeframes indicated and log them in your online logbook:
Week 1, Aug. 1–7: 10,000 meters
Week 2, Aug. 8–14: 20,000 meters
Week 3, Aug. 15–21: 30,000 meters
Week 4, Aug. 22–28: 40,000 meters
The distance goals do not have to be done in one sitting, but must be done during the timeframe indicated. By the end of the challenge, you will have accumulated 100,000 meters.

Those who note these kind of details will see that Concept2 DROPPED the total number of meters in the four week Challenge from last year's 140K to this year's 100K....what's up with THAT?! Maybe this will increase the number of finishers? Working us up to the first team challenge of the 2015 season?

Season meters as of 91/365 = 20,601,838 m (we're one quarter of the way through the erging season!)

Total meters on the day = 191,879 m

Teammates in the boat = 85
