I notice that the "first half" of the day's races is only about 9 1/2 minutes long and starts with a lwt junior women's race, while the "second half" is about 6 hours long (these numbers given by real player - I didn't time them)... are we missing the morning's races before the lwt junior women?

I'd like to be able to save the video as well.

there was a problem with the morning's races on the encoder side - we're going to have to recreate this part of the webcast from scratch...

the second half - we have the entire race but i was interrupted during the upload process (someone unplugged my router while i was trying to upload the very large file after the races ended...). I'm going to try again from my hotel this am ( update: currently uploading - started at 6:30am - slow hotel connection should be done by about 9:00am)

-bp
Howdy!

My connection didn't work well enough (or some kind of problem) so I wasn't able to watch the races live yesterday. It looks like the replays are working for me and I am so excited to watch them. Thank you so much for all of your good work!

David

I very much enjoyed the webcast yesterday. The announcers were pretty funny at times unfortunately the replay does not seem to have them.

For an improvement next year, I would recommend showing the rowers more and the racing screen less. 5 to 10 seconds of the racing screen per minute of rowing (or near the end of each 500 meters) would probably be adequate and then have some focused time just after the start and near the end for showing the racing screen.

I just rewatched the Men's Open (time 5:34:24 start) and for the vast majority of the time the racing screen was shown. I really wanted to see the leaders of the race perform their thing and not just stare at the racing screen.

- Tom

One of the racers; one of the scoreboard. Or a wide-screen webcast with a half/half split between rowers and scoreboard.

The biggest problem with it was the pixelation and the echoey sound. I don't know whether that was due to not a big enough fast enough machine/connection at my end or not a big enough fast enough machine/connection at the Boston end (I suspect the latter). I had the same problem with the European webcast.

The replay seems to be OK and I don't have that problem watching live coverage from the BBC (they are showing the Olympic closing ceremony right now in real-time).
i've uploaded the last of the 'second half' of the webcast from here at work - i think we now have the entirety of this file online.

the connection speed from the venue was very good every time i checked it - and we were sending only one stream from there - i suspect that our reflector service was overwhelmed by demand (over 2500 viewers came through during the day).

for now i have uploaded only the 'raw' stream - we have archived high quality source files and will be working on producing race specific files later this week. this should clean up the sound, play better over all connection speeds and be easier to navigate. for now i'm going home to sleep.

<edit> well in listening to the webcast files is sounds like we had an open mike in the broadcast stand - which gives a pretty funny ear into what we were talking about during the webcast. I can only hope that we didn't say anything too terrible during the event - PLEASE email me at billp@concept2.com quickly if you stumble across something that needs to be deleted... this is intended to be a family show

I didn't have any trouble with the video for about the first 4 hours; but after logged out and came back, I was getting the pixelated video at times. I think the webscreen webcast with a split screen would be great. Whenever you were showing the computer display of the race, I wanted to see video of the rowers, and then when you cut to the rowers, I wanted to figure out who was who and what they were rowing. So seeing both at once would be great.
