Hi Everyone,
I'm working on my technique since I am new to rowing and have some questions.
1) How constant are people stroke rate? I seem to drift +/- 1 spm, unless I try to adjust something in my form then I temporarily drift a bit more.Any tips on keeping this tight?
2) When looking at the wattage graph of the drive, what is the desired shape? Flat? Curved?
3) Are there races for newbies? I know I'll get crushed by experienced rowers.
Thanks,
WT

Re: Technique
If using HR training, rate can be adjusted to get in and stay in band, holding constant (roughly) the work content of the stroke.
Parabolic, with peak left of centre (when the legs are doing their bit).
All erg races are for all-comers; if you log here http://log.concept2.com you can see where you stand.
These are videos of a sculler doing UT2 and 1 work. He adjusts only the strokerate.

As you can see, the work in each stroke is large enough to get him into band even at low ratings. He raced 2k at over 35.

2024: stroke 5.5W-min@20-21. ½k 190W, 1k 145W, 2k 120W. Using Wods 4-5days/week. Fading fast.

2 the flatter the less power the stroke stroke has, the steeper with a fat head the most. Round is ok, starting steep is good.
3 hardly, there are not many races at all, look at the results in previous years to get an idea. But in general there are not many races. You could use row pro, thats online training racing.
