Hey there, I've got a rather dumb beginner's question (sorry) I'm new to all this, and I'm wondering why everyone refers to the rowing machine as "erg". What does this mean/stand for?

Thanks!
Marsha

If you want a rowing machine, put your ergometer on slides. http://www.concept2.com/products/slides/slides.asp The feel is MUCH closer to what real rowing feels like. You also don't need to confine yourself to one racing distance (2k) anymore now that 3D on-line live racing at every distance you can imagine is finally catching on with Rowpro. http://www.digitalrowing.com/

Good luck

Jeff Sauter

For the record, "erg" is a unit of measure of a specific quantity of energy (like "meter" is a specific measure of distance).

1 watt second is equal to 10,000,000 ergs, so it's obviously a very small unit.

So, an "ergometer" is, technically, any device capable of measuring energy output.

Abe
