5000m, target times?
5000m, target times?
Hi just started to get back into rowing and my last 5 sessions have seen me complete the 5000m in 26-27 mins so I set myself a target of sub 25 mins which I have now managed to do (just) at 24:56, is this a good start, what sort of target time should I be looking to achieve? Im male 35 years and just getting back into exercise.? Thanks in advance.

It's good, keep going, can only get better. A steady 5k a day is fine, with HR under control and lowish rating against lowish drag, if you sweat.
2 to 3W/kg fit weight could be a stiffish target for time trials, with 2 enough for endurance.

You seem to be achieving some good results, try some interval training as well as this will improve your threshold levels so you can speed up your 5000m times.

Well, one-half of those 30-39, all weights, who ranked 5K times in the 2014 season, were below 20 mins for 5K. 25 mins is about 5% from the bottom. One can do with the numbers in whatever manner is most meaningful.

Re: 5000m, target times?
I'd say your target is whatever you want it to be. I do circa 40-50k a week over 4 days and I keep improving my times. I've just beaten my 10k PB last week so it's always possible to improve if you just keep motivated.
If you want to achieve a 'good' time i.e. compared to other experienced rowers, then it should be under 20 mins, and probably closer to 18 or 19 but that's all in the future, and a target to work towards. If you're only just rowing again it will take time, possibly a long time, but just knock of the seconds each week and you'll have great fun getting there! Sounds like you're making great progress already
