Welcome back Diane!
I remember last year pegging myself to [0.5 * David] , and I am almost back on track despite missing the first two weeks of the Season.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Yes, I survived Lake Shore Drive! My goal for "Bike The Drive" was 45 miles (one complete revolution is 30 miles). I've been afraid to check my sponsor page, but at least one person donated accordingly.
According to Garmin GPS, I did 45.72 miles in 3:09:49, averaging 14.5MPH. My heart rate averaged 117, but reached 142 on the final hill. (My personal maximum heart rate is about 180.) There were 2,872 feet of elevation (the same in descents) over the distance. I only made 2 stops - 4.5 minutes at 8 miles, to loosen my rubbing front brakes & drink water, and 8.5 minutes at the Museum of Science & Industry - 23 miles in - to finish my water bottle, eat 2 bananas & a mini-Clif Bar, and refill my water bottle. (Some of that was "walking my bike", since the area was too thick with many of the 22,000 people participating to ride it through.)
I was very surprised that I averaged over 15MPH while riding, since there were so many times I was stuck in "pockets" of people riding slowly, and having to wait for an opportunity to "break out". One small girl swerved across the left lane towards me with about a mile and a half to go, forcing me to go a lot closer to the cement highway divider than is normally prudent. Thankfully, I avoided contact. I've been worried before about being taken down by a cute blonde, but not by one that's only 7 or 8!
I saw a couple guys "wiped out", laying on the Drive protected by a ring of friends waiting for medical help to arrive. Been there, done that, so I left that experience to others this time.
Surprisingly, my swollen knee was a non-factor, as was my pain in the side (Bruised ribs? Pulled muscle?). I did get one of the support people to change my seat before the race, so instead of severe discomfort by Mile 20 like last week, it didn't happen until about Mile 35 Sunday. The seat change (and looking for the charity's tent) did delay my starting time, so I had to cancel my 3rd rest stop to finish before 10:15 (I drove from 7:03 - 10:13!), which is when they throw all riders off the Lake Shore Drive... The wind of the Windy City didn't affect me until Mile 41 when a steady light wind began blowing in our faces. It was almost welcome, since along with the extra resistance it brought coolness...
BACK TO ROWING NOW! The doc said not to row 10-14 days, leaning towards 14. So, today is Day 11. I will build up slowly for this week, and see how my elbow reacts. (It actually looks basically normal, for the first time in 5 months.) Either way, no whipping action at the end of the stroke for a month!
Glad to be back to my fave fitness forum...

Congrats! I am happy that you were able to complete the ride despite your recent injury. I also look forward to seeing you log some meters again.Izzzmeister wrote:Yes, I survived Lake Shore Drive!
I'll likely resume erging as well. I had been rowing OTW 3x/week until the last two weekends. I've been installing a new driveway which involved me moving 15 tons of gravel by hand an average of 50 feet. It is the biggest physical challenge I've ever faced. I did it in about 15 hours. I followed that with 1/2 ton each of sharp sand, manure, compost, and expanded shale for the yard. Bow seat in my 2X would probably prefer that I focus a bit more of rowing as I haven't had much energy.
In other news, I lost 30 pounds in the first 3 months of the year and am thinking about becoming a lightweight. That's about 3 pounds away for the erg and 8 pounds for OTW. That doesn't sound like much, but I've maintained this new weight effortlessly and dropping 8 additional pounds sounds like real work.
Next race is a Henley-style 1k on June 7th.

Hey Andy congratulations on losing the weight and keeping it off. And it sounds like you are in fine shape considering all that heavy lifting you've done on your driveway. Keep up the great work!Quatroux wrote: In other news, I lost 30 pounds in the first 3 months of the year and am thinking about becoming a lightweight.
