OTW has an added bit of fun where each year of life earns you a buffer of time on the racecourse. The problem is when you form boats of 2, 4, or 8 people. You then average their age and you get people like me that are young enough to destroy the handicap advantage of their older partner(s). People ALWAYS care about losing this advantage and it doesn't help when you are very new (or out of shape) and don't offset the handicap loss with loads of speed.

Cheer up, it is better to be old and slow than to be young and slow.

I did 10k tonight but a towel as a pad isn't doing my bony tail any justice. I guess i need to pick up that pad from wally world.

Cyclingman1 wrote:Re butt difficulties on C2 rowers.

There seems to be two problems: (1) the seat is hard and unforgiving causing bruising in the area where bones meet the seat, and (2) the buttocks around the tail bone rub on the back of the seat causing painful sores to develop.

The solution to both problems is a reasonably thick, firm pad (at least an inch) with a 'U' shaped cut out in the back of the pad. It is a combination of padding and elevation off the seat that solves both problems.
Not sure exactly what problem is being experienced, but often times only a pad is insufficient. The U-shaped cut out in the pad is critical. A towel would not be a solution, nor would any pad without a cut out.

I'm only having issues with problem number 1 that you outlined. I believe I can come up with an acceptable solution.

Right, a lot of folks here use pads alone with good success. I usually just use the bare seat, but sometimes I use a pad and it works great.

You would think with all the built-in, natural padding I keep with me at all times in the area in question, I wouldn't need additional technology, but, sadly, that's not the case. Gardening knee pad for me.

2014 Erging season winding down... and the WEC is NOW!

Sorry, guys, I was out of commission prepping for a major presentation. Now I'm back - I'm glad it went well, but also glad it's over! (AND I got my first row in last night, finally!)
Six more weeks to the end of the erging season! April 30 is fast approaching! How close are you to reaching your goals for this season? Do you need to pick up the pace a little, to end this season strong and get a fast start on next season?

Here's Your “Call To Arms” (right arms & left arms):
The WORLD ERG CHALLENGE is now underway, and we need you to join us! Any meters you row between March 15 and April 15 will help TimbukTWO rise through the rankings, hopefully surprising and overtaking many larger teams. We would like to have a team average of 150K meters per team member (and at least 90 members, which would mean about 13.5 million team meters), but we welcome any member that wants to contribute meters & improve fitness!
Please go to your “Teams” page, make sure your Team reads TimbukTWO, then scroll down to Challenges, and join the WEC for 2014! We need your lungs, muscles, but especially HEART!
Let's do it!!!

You are both great!!! (Izzy & Lisa) I am hanging on the 5K a day for the Mud Challenge, amidst all my other commitments. Once I settle down I will do some long rows for the team! One of these days I want to put a marathon notch in my belt! Hopefully before April 15th!

Hey Y'all,
Until April 1 I can't row as much as I'd like. I messed up my knee and the docotr says I have to rest it. So Im doing low meters and going very slow about 3 times a week. Sorry I can't help contribute much to the overall point total but Ill so as much as I can!

Oh and it's been forever since I have been on the erg.....but its still fun!

Tara
