Dropped my 500m PB to 1:24.7 earlier this week!

This was my 3rd all out 500m sprint, and it felt great. I had been off the rower all month, recovering from a little shoulder pain. Started rowing last November. Think my log card is around 120k right now, mostly from Jan ( took part in an online contest, our group of 13 wanted to hit 1,000,000 for the month) where I pulled approx 85k.

So glad that I discovered this world of erg rowing. It is my favorite indoor workout tool now!

Henry may not be impressed, but getting SUB7 is a milepost. I've done it twice. Whether it's truly outstanding depends not just on age and weight, but also gender and height.

True, but still if lightweight, sub 62kg women can do, we can,t call it a manly achievement. Its ofcourse a nice cliff and certainly when you have worked for it nice.

If I guy could pass a 9lb kidney stone, he would get a man card in my book. Just because a woman does a thing does not keep it from being a 'manly' thing! :)

Ah...well done..

I usually am the worst collector of my PBs...if not for the concept2 logbook, I wouldn't know.

I started at just doing 30 mins, and went from 5100 to now 7200 in under 2.5 months. Yesterday I tried breaking that , with the "punishment" that if I didn't, I'd have to keep going to 10K and try and get under 43 minutes, and when I didn't break that, I decided to punish myself and try and get 15K in 1hr 5 minutes, which I barely did. Jelly legs. I crawled off the damn thing.

Strange hjs that only 5 persons from my age were rowing below 7 min. On the Dutch championships.there are on the concept2 page only 15 women below 7 so i think that for my age 6'59" is a good result :x :)

I did not say it was not a good result, I say 6.59 does not maje you a man, plenty of boys and woman do it. The dutch championchampion ships are not a very worthwhile bench mark, not many people, including you yourself :D , don,t bother to turn up.

So again congrats, But a cripple old man like myself can do 5 of those in a row, with a few minutes rest. And I am not a real man, not big, and cripple  And I did turn up where you did not.

Is it just me, or are these some bizarre posts? I have no idea what the OP is trying to say or convey.

Its my fault, he broke 7 min and is happy about it. A bit lost in translation.

I'm with Dougie. Nice milepost. It took me nearly 3 years to get my first sub-7, and I worked hard to get it. I was only able to stay in that territory for 3 1/2 years before getting too darn old or lazy to stay under 7. Well done, Bartojanssen! B)

On the other hand, I understand what Henry means. When I was doing mine, the WR for lightweight women was 6:56.7 by Lisa Schlenker, much lighter but faster than me, which kept me from getting too full of myself.

I say Congratulations! Breaking 7 minutes is an important milestone. Some people say it's "easy" to do, but what they mean is that it feels "easy" after having spent a considerable amount of time working on getting in the kind of shape necessary to break 7 minutes.

I also think some people's perspectives on what a good performance is are distorted. They only use a highly limited and biased sample of performances to determine what good means. They look at what the very best in the field are able to do, and then dismiss anything that's less than that as not good. There's also the self-selection problem: people who show up at competitions tend to be very good at it, while those who are not good at something will simply not compete at it. Put another way, we hear from the people who tend to be very good at something, and not from the bottom 70% of whatever activity it is we're looking at. And finally we have the self-deprecating types, who think they're bad at something and think that anything worse than what they can do must be pretty awful.

At the end of the day, I think that if you ask all 7 billion people on the planet to do a 2k, even after some amount of time spent training, sub-7 minutes will still come out as a very good performance. Not elite, not great, but certainly GOOD and something to be proud of.
Mid-30s, 6'0", 230lbs (working on that.......), 6:54.8 2k PB (1:43.7, March 2015). Occasional OTW rower.
Don't believe everything you read on the internet!
Other PBs: 1k @ 1:39.9 (March 2015).

Views are certainly distorted, some people call everything good, just showing up is already good. Most people can never be good, they lack the basic talent. This part fom the work they are willing yo put in. We range from poor to excellent. Simply fact
