Uh oh, my secret identity has been revealed. But we are not going to talk about the source of those "tiny bubbles."

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 3.4.14

Post by Kona2 » March 6th, 2014, 12:11 am

Image Well, it has ALREADY happened. And it's a REPEAT winner from last year! Congratulations, David A. !! You must carry a TON of good luck shamrocks with you always because on the first day you log that 5K or more row, your name gets picked as a Concept2 prize winner! Whoop, whoop and hooyah !!! More loot !ImageImageImage

Image Day 5 of the Madness !!!

ImageImage Lunies in the hunt for shamrocks, pots of gold and a lucky draw for a Concept2 prize (the odds are FOREVER WITH YOU as a Lunie!)...

And speaking of Lunies, welcome to Adam M and welcome back to Tom P, Roger G, Popeye and AJ - it's always good to have fun teammates! It makes our journey to fitness by way of the moon seem just a little bit easier! Here's wishing everyone good erging sessions and much good camaraderie.

Now. About Popeye. This cartoon has always been shrouded in mystery. Cartoon lore has it that Popeye was a boarder in the Oyl house. Maybe only Olive lived there. Sweet Pea, the unusual baby, shows up on the doorstep of Olive's house...all ready for adoption. In trying to figure all of this spinach and oyl and stuff out, I naturally turned to Wiki. Naturally. According to Wiki, Popeye proposes the name Swee'Pea for the child; Olive objects, saying it sounds ridiculous, and he retorts "Well, what were you going to call him? Baby Oyl?" We may now understand why this comic only survived a short while (not really, it makes me laugh). Who could forget Wimpy, Wimpy, Wimpy the hamburger man....oh wait, wimpy, wimpy wimpy was a line from the hefty garbage bag commercial...Onwards. Btw, this is what happens when I write up the stats later in the day...don't judge me...

Season meters as of 309/365 = 145,931,122 m

Total meters on the day = 7,464,039 m (Astrogator faints.)

When I was a kid growing up in the Chicago area, there were a few Wimpy's hamburger restaurants. They had some cool items on the menu related to the cartoon, but I always got the Wimpy burger. hmmmmm wonder if that explains some aspects of my life.

Crikey, the weekends come around so fast these days… :o

Mixed weather here in Sydney, but a wonderful sunrise over the harbour as I made my way across the Harbour Bridge this morning…

Good weekend to all, and remember if all else fails, remain out of control and see what develops!

Cheers, Baz

Sad News

Post by Kona2 » March 6th, 2014, 6:33 pm

The Overcoming Disabilities flags and the Lunie flags are all at half mast today as we rally around our teammates to provide support...because that is what we do. We are virtual friends here, and we've often said that a virtual friendship is no less deep than many of our real time friendships. Indeed, in this digital age, sometimes we connect more with people even in our own cities through online conversations than we do face to face. Our teammate Zander Fraser, a friend of Ronnie's for greater than 20 years and a former member of the Jamaican Paralympic team passed away recently. This is a big loss for Ronnie, for Overcoming Disabilities, and for the Lunies. Zander had a staph infection that would not be controlled, and it claimed him.

We have lost teammates to accidents, adversity and to illness several times in our tenure as a team, and each time it is hard to accept that this is an outcome that the universe needed to have. I like to think that the opposite side of this equation in life is that we have helped each other survive and thrive. In each instance of loss, we have asked our team to do a memorial row or ski-erg session, of whatever length you wish ... and to include 888 in the final accumulation of meters. It's our signal that we are celebrating someone's memory.

And so I send out an ask to our team universe to put in some special meters if you wish - to honor a teammate who was with us in our Challenges, and in our zany fun.

My thoughts go out to all, to Ronnie. Perhaps the brilliant glow in the sun as it was rising over the Harbour this morning was Zander and the start of a new journey. ...Baz

My heart is heavy to learn of Zander's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with Zander, Ronnie, and everyone else touched by this loss. Tomorrow I will erg 5888 in Zander's honor. Virtual hugs to my Loonie Family.
