Timing in training and in health is everything. This past Nov, I was certain that low 6:40s for 2K was in my wheel house. That was based on a 17:34 [1:45.4] for 5K. I figured 1:41 was doable. Alas, since that time, medical related issues have sort of zapped me. So, no way was I going to do a regional race this yr. Wrong!!

The wife prodded me into doing the race on Sat, Feb 1, at GA TECH. I knew I had to be conservative. At the gun I settled into a not unpleasant 1:44. Kept that the entire way until the last 250m and finished at 6:54.4 {1:43.6]. In hindsight, I probably could have done 6:50. It turns out that I had a best time for 60+ for that regional, the Atlanta Erg Sprints. I even "qualified" for Crash-B, but will not be going. Even though I'm relatively appreciative of being able to row 6:54 just 30 days before turning 68, I'm not exactly jumping for joy. It is not where I wanted to be. The good news is that I seem to be getting over what has ailed me. We do have 3 months left in this Concept2 season.

Best of luck at the Cincinnati, KY race next week.

We have some really fast rowers amongst us.
But do not count me among them.
I am still getting my back back- sorry for that double word usage -
My stroke is still out of kilter- even between 11-to 1 o'clock - back movement is still dicey, so i can't go as fast even as I did back in 2012-
Slowly but surely I am making progress, both in distance and speed- as my back continues to slowly heal.
Being competitive and compulsive, it is a constant battle to go slow- but slow I go-
for now.

I'm there with you. I'm post recovery myself and can feel for your frustration in having to take it slow and easy. I made the mistake of trying to come back too quickly and paid the price. Take it slow and recover fully.

I know I only joined TimbukTOO at the beginning of February, but I'm going back to my previous affiliation (Royal Air Force) for the military challenge. I'll be back with the team in March. In the meantime row strong!
