The Military Challenge

Post by Kona2 » February 1st, 2014, 12:10 am

Reposting this one per Kristine's suggestion:

Just a reminder that teams have until midnight on February 3rd to post their final meters on the Virtual Team Challenge. If you plan on erging for a different affiliation for the Military Challenge, please stay with us until February 4th. Your full meters will still post for the Military Challenge at that time...but if you leave us before then, your meters are off the Challenge total.. Of course, we'd REALLY like you to stay with us on our journey through the stars. Our journey is a long one made ever so much more fun by good travel companions. :D

What a fabulous demonstration of sheer willpower and determination by this Challenge team. Our previous best ever was 24 million and some change....and look at that fine 35 million and some change ! It's a beacon of all the good stuff that makes us all us. And...I don't think I've ever posted so many stars and billiards and fireworks...whoa! You rock rock rock !! And float. More tubs than ever..I will post the ARMOONDA very soon. Giving everyone a chance to upload the last drop of blood...I mean the last few meters.

Hooyah! Congratulations, Guinan Jane on achieving 500,000 m in the Virtual Team Challenge ! Just in the nick of time (not the night to be singing After Midnight), the final meter installment was posted for the coveted tub! Rule Brittania and all that ! Quite a nice regal Leo on that tub, too. Well done !

Should be an effortless glide across the ONE million meter milestone from here for Guinan.

Awesome AJ and thanks Kona for the posting. I was definitely trying to get the meters in earlier than usual as 30000 a day has tired me out and I was afraid I would fall asleep on the couch if I wasn't careful. Love the clergy collar -don't think I've ever worn it rowing (or in a bath tub/hot tub) but gives me something to think about. Orion noticed and likes the fish. Rule Britannia indeed. Thought about a million, but wanted to end 500012.

The THIRD million meter boat...

Post by Kona2 » February 1st, 2014, 12:48 am

As promised, the resident artist has concocted a THIRD million meter boat for Jim, who is a good reminder that surprising things can and do happen every day just because someone believes in what is possible!

Is anyone interested in a Super Bowl total points challenge? I was thinking maybe 100 meters per point. So if it ends 24-20 that would b 44x100=4400 meters. Any day in the coming week would be ok to row this. Jaybird and I have did this the past 3 years but row 300 per point. Any one interested or have a different meter amount to suggest? Probably be a low scoring game. Next year when da Bears play in it, will be a different story.

Many of you know that I have a spreadsheet that I use to predict the finishing point during Challenges based on readings of the rowing and skierging universe taken at several points in time. This is not quite like Madame Zoltana, the fortune teller, but it can be sort of like that. Five days prior to the finish of the Challenge, I was "reading" that we would finish at 33.5 and Community Rowing would finish at 33.8....and the fervor with which this team went after those final days totally blew my prediction out of the water. Because you can't factor in the people part of it...and how much they might want to reach a certain goal. This is different than having a bunch of hidden people (yes, it is true...I do like to play fair and try for real time numbers as much as possible). Jim and Guinan's final pushes for their one million and 500K goals were amazing for all of us to watch. Michelle and Walter also rowed almost ONE million meters in the Challenge - throwing down huge numbers in the last week (in addition to the biggie numbers earlier). The net result was that this team produced about 5 percent more meters than predicted....so maybe I call that the GOT HEART factor? Impressive stuff.
