I think we should all have a moment of silence for all of those who may or may not look like the Cap'n during this weekend when Concept satellite regattas are occurring across the US and Canada. I suspect there will be hundreds who never realized that rowing can hurt this bad. The national rowing championships, Crash-B, occurs on Sun, Feb 16.Izzzmeister wrote: damselfly wrote: And here's Cap'n Izz after a particularly tough 2k test...
Dang, I thought I had destroyed all copies of that one!
I guess everyone has seen by now what 2" of snow does to Atlanta. It happens every time. Atlanta has no public transportation network to speak of and has too few roads. And what roads we have are saturated with trucks during the day. During this latest snow episode, trucks had all of the freeways choked.Izzzmeister wrote:Jim G – 5,216 Better than biking in the snow...
I used to bike in the winter, freezing to death all the time. Now, I turn on the TV and row to my heart's content without a shirt and an industrial fan blowing on me.

Too bad there wasn't just a little bit more, then you could have kept really cool while rowing... as Norwegian athlete Olaf Tufte is doing here... I love that the seat has carved out a channel in the drift. Crazy!Cyclingman1 wrote:I guess everyone has seen by now what 2" of snow does to Atlanta.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hey Team!! Last day of the challenge today -- row hard and row well! We're currently in 14th place -- it has been a brutal year, with some new teams racking up some incredible numbers. We're doing great though, and currently have just shy of 11 million meters!!! Nice rowing! We have had some stunning rows by some members -- a record number of full marathons for sure. Pat yourselves on the backs, but put down those oars first -- we don't want anyone needing stitches!! And for the challenge report, we have 26 of 84 members (31%) who logged 288,494 total meters Thursday!

If there is one thing I have learned it is that I need to find another exercise to cross-train with and give myself a break from rowing each week. 80K meters per week at a 1:52.5 pace is killing me. I'd like to get my 4 million this season, which will also be 10 million lifetime.
Next season I'm gonna start alternating with another exercise, like a stair-master or an elliptical thingy, or maybe lifting weights again and taking a jog. My rowing meters will be lower, but I think I'll be better for it.
In the meantime, I may slow down a bit.
Great rowing, team! Looks like we'll hit 11 million!

AAAAGHHHH!!!! I saved the last 5 km for the last day and now I can't row it! Epic failure on the planning front.damselfly wrote:Ron M - 220,795 of 225,000 (98.1%)
But no matter. 220km in a single month is more than I've been able to row in a single month in well over a year. I'll take it.

Yes, you had an incredible month for anyone, much less this being your first really consistent period of rowing since your injury. Be proud!!

I can't see how anyone does this with any real seriously strong effort every day (and yeah, 1:52, ouch). Sounds like a good plan.CONLEJM wrote:Definitely feeling better!damselfly wrote:

I'm trying to do three days running and three rowing, and weights/strengthening scattered across it all. I really suck at discipline with the weights. Then there's a one-hour stretching regimen, but that can be done in front of the TV with the hubby... Ten-pound weight gain over the past year isn't helping. Thank you, menopause.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
They have MY full sympathy. I will be rowing next Sunday in the Cincinnati race (that, like the Cincy airport, is actually in Kentucky).Cyclingman1 wrote:...this weekend when Concept satellite regattas are occurring across the US and Canada. While Lisa was impressed that I did a sub-7 2K, that was just done as a starting point, a frame of reference. In Cincy, 3 years ago my time was 6:42.7, two years ago it was 6:46. For me to do a 6:57.1 two weeks before the race is a terrible setback, not a triumph. It means I'll likely row a 6:50 or 6:51 next Sunday.
That leaves me with the fun option of "rowing through" my race next Sunday, expecting to peak about 3 weeks AFTER my race, thanks to a 2-week setback due to a cold & some bursitis in my right elbow in mid-January. Hopefully, I'll still be able to break 6:45 sometime this season...
GREAT ROWING EVERYONE IN THE CHALLENGE! A LOT OF AMAZING EFFORTS, GREAT TEAM TOTALS!
