Yes, guys, I WILL catch up. I just didn't row Thursday night because I was feeling nauseous, Saturday night because I had a bad cold. Last night, I finally did a 51-minute row very gingerly, because I don't want to make this cold any worse than it already is. So, for a very short time, I'll be "leading from behind". But with a race in 5 weeks, I can't wait too long to get cracking. And with a bunch of teams vying for 7th to 12th Place, I'll likely put in some extra meters...

Reminds me of a quote I heard once...
Which way did they go? How many were there? How fast were they going? I
must find them; I am their leader.
Feel better soon, Cap'n!!

Thanks, but I have to be on fire in order to stay warm down here in Atlanta! It's 12 degrees and will get to 5 or 6 tomorrow morning :o

I know that's not near as cold as up North but we moved here from Chicago to get away from this!

It was a balmy -15F here, though it felt like -40F with the winds at 25-35mph...

It has been a long time since I had a good story for you guys. Here is why I didn't row yesterday.

This is an awesome story about the time I lost my temper like a spoiled toddler, threw a tiny plastic toy across my living room, and shattered a $1k television an hour before the national championship. That is pretty uncharacteristic of me, but I had been an overly positive influence in the life of my children and it was time to bring things back down to earth.

I went to Best Buy at closing time last night after spending an hour at WalMart. I don't even shop at WalMart, but Google assured me they had the TV I wanted at an unbelievable price. With two six year olds in tow, I drove to the suburbs, and entered the belly of the beast. I left an hour later with no TV, but possibly having contributed to the death or injury of a WalMart employee.

Have you watched the news? I am afraid to.

It went down like this:

We slipped into the store quickly and quietly - much like any other dad with two 6 year old boys. We quickly (40 minutes after walking around their electronics wasteland) pounced upon an unsuspecting employee (woke the young man at the nearby cell phone station) and manipulated him into retrieving the TV I desired. Twenty minutes later (real time - I still wear a watch) he still hadn't returned from his search. I began to worry, but could find no other employee with which to raise the alarm. I started to wonder if perhaps he was trapped under a pile of surplus Xbox Ones having been sent by me, a heartless consumer, into a dangerous backroom - driven to the extreme by his desire to please the customer. Fearing we might be blamed for his predicament, my boys and I fled the store (touching EVERYTHING on the way out just as we had on the way in so as not to draw attention to ourselves).

I felt pretty good about escaping WalMart without the discomfort of encountering any additional employees. Now it was time to refocus on the whole TV thing.

Despite being responsible for sending us into a dicey situation at WalMart, Google would surely not let us down a second time. Hahahaha! Shame on me, Google. This time you sent me to a Best Buy that didn't exist. Another 20 minutes was lost. I'll stand for this no more. I refuse to be kept from my goal.

I finally put the phone away and drove to a real Best Buy where a real person found me a real TV in time to see the entire fourth quarter of the national championship. What a game!!!

Sure, the TV was full price and 2" smaller than the old one, but it has Clear Motion Rate! CMR (as we call it) is this nifty idea the marketing department at Samsung created. You see, the TV refreshes the screen at 120hz. There's no arguing with that. However, it really does such an awesome job that it is basically the same as a 240hz TV, but refresh is kind of an industry standard thing we can't mess with. Therefore, we invented CMR in which this is a 240hz CMR which is basically the same as a 240hz refresh except it does all that at only 120hz. I feel pretty good about it overall.

What did we all learn from this? Don't lose your temper, destroy your TV, and set a bad example for your kids right before a national championship game unless you want to pay full price for a TV that a marketing department relabeled in an effort to get $50 extra bucks out of you.

Will row today.
