New to indoor rowing, just joined your Team for the Virtual Team Challenge.

My wife's maiden name was Looney, so this team was an easy choice.

Welcome to all the new and returning Luna-tics, and much belated kudos for all the great milestones, and especially to our navigator Kona2, with thanks for all the greatly appreciated stats.
Way to row, everybody! Now let us kick some VTC ...meters.
Slow and Steady is my pace, so it seems,
Slow and Steady wins the race, in my dreams.

Whoa! I just got done with my row, logged my meters ( a half marathon) and then checked in here. Looks like the number 21097 was in the stars today, and I didn't even know it. Eerie.

A great big lunar welcome to the new team mates ! Great to have you aboard!

Haven't verified what our resident artist AJ has time for and/or interest in doing artwork specific for this year's Virtual Team Challenge. We do have artwork for canoes, and have generally awarded those at the 100K milestone for individuals in the challenge. At 200K, we have put a native rower in the canoe....and then you can earn a paddle. We have some teammates' caricatures, but certainly not all of them in our media library - since some people have just joined. In this way, we build what is fondly known as our ArMOONda - filled with teammates who are helping get as many meters as we can accumulate (and having some fun with it).

I do know that we will not be awarding anything but canoes until after the lock in date. We respect our resident artist's time and work - and it's been no fun in the past to have someone take their caricature and row elsewhere for the Challenge. Since AJ hasnt signed on for the VTC himself yet, I'll ping him and ask.

Another glorious start to the day with a 10,000 metre row and then a bike ride down to Nobby’s Beach, Newcastle, Australia for a swim and surf with TomO, followed by hot chips and tomato sauce; and all before 8:00am…

Whoops sorry Janet, meant to say healthy muesli and yoghurt.

And some great rowing happening from team Luna-tics.

Cheers, Baz

Post by Kona2 » January 2nd, 2014, 6:33 pm

Woohoo and hooyah! AJ has confirmed that he is willing to do a few new caricatures for those who reach 200K in the Virtual Team Challenge! So, if you are working towards that goal, know that we will need to have a team profile photo posted for that purpose. Or, if you'd rather not do that, we have a couple of generic natives. Must say, though, that the caricatures can be very fun. If you reach the goal of 200K with a half moon or a full moon, I believe that we can put that in the sky by the canoe bow.

We'll award the caricatures after the 15th of the month, but I do encourage everyone to get as many meters in as you can! Always a good Challenge with many, many good teams to give us a row and skierg challenge for our team spot !

Similar to the Holiday Challenge, at 100K you can earn your canoe and a generic native. At 200K, you can earn a caricature AND a paddle...which, of course, helps you go farther faster. Adaptive rowers can choose to get their canoe at 50K. Jim, if you'll let me know choices there, it will help.

VTC: Day 3 Dawns....

Post by Kona2 » January 3rd, 2014, 11:22 am

Image Day 3 or 4 of 31....the Challenge tightens up!

Hooboy! We are off to a good start in what promises to be a highly competitive Virtual Team Challenge! We can expect that there will be a lot of volatility in team standings during the first two weeks of the Challenge, as teams gather teammates. Most of us know that the last two weeks of the Challenge tend to define what we're made of as teams and as individual contributors to those teams - because it will be a close finish. Put in as many meters as you can comfortably do...and then add a few that are harder to do!

Some people add ten or 15 minutes to their daily rowing and/or ski-erging sessions during the Challenge as a way to consistently add a few more meters. Others jump in with mega-meters and lots of what we call half moons (half marathon distances that may or may not be completed in one session). It doesn't matter what you contribute - it just matters that you participate and enjoy the virtual challenge and its camaraderie!

For teammates who are coming off of injuries, take it E-A-S-Y as you get back in the erg saddle. It is a long Challenge, and there is still time for guts and glory. We'll save the "go out in a blaze of glory" for the last day!

1 LUNA-TICS Virtual Club 2,161,249 94 22,992
2 Age Without Limits Virtual Club 2,024,410 149 13,587
3 Free Spirits Virtual Club 1,248,408 100 12,484
4 HAVK Mladost On-Water Club 1,194,647 200 5,973
5 FRENCH INDOOR ROWERS TEAM Virtual Club 1,106,214 202 5,476

Great rowing (and skierging!) by our 94 teammates in the Virtual Team Challenge. Here's a link to the individual contributions http://log.concept2.com/team/profile.asp?rt_index=2537

And, we have our first canoe in the virtual waters as Richard T hits the 100,000 m contribution milestone: remember that 100K is the basic canoe and basic native...caricatures later... :D

"Hardships there are but the land is green and the sun shineth" is the symbolism of the Flag. Black stands for hardships overcome and to be faced; Gold, for natural wealth and beauty of sunlight; and Green stands for hope and agricultural resources".

Whoop, whoop and hooyah! It's always great when a personal milestone is reached during one of our Challenges - gives us all an extra boost as we celebrate the accomplishment. Congratulations, Zander, on achieving yet another one million meter season! We wish you many, MANY more!!

Whoop, whoop and hooyah! Richard T might be seeing a lot of snowflakes about now since he is in one of the areas of the US that is under winter storm watch. Well, we know he is keeping a good supply of firewood! Skierg and rowing machine both used by this teammate to get all these meters. Congratulations, Richard T, on achieving a FOUR million meter multi-modal Concept2 season! We wish you many, MANY more!

Image Another episode...

Teammate Jane noticed the Guinan nickname right away when her meters were posted, and sent a quick PM saying that perhaps Guinan was her alter ego for the Challenge. This sent me down the bunny trail of Guinan...a character that appears intermittently in the Star Trek logbooks.

Guinan was the mysterious bartender in Ten Forward, the lounge aboard the USS Enterprise-D. She was well known for her wise counsel, which had proven invaluable many times. She was an El-Aurian, a race of "listeners" who were scattered by the Borg. Q, however, once suggested that there is far more to her than could be imagined. How much is to be believed in this fun write up from the crew files ?
