Merry Christmas, Happy Festivus. Sweet hub and I are headed to our "rowing reward"--off to New Orleans. Our own little challenge. We decided to log our cumulative rowing miles, and when we "traveled" the distance from our house to NOLA (1,100 miles), we'd book a trip. And we're off! See you in 2014!

Congratulations Bobbie_Zee!!! Have a great time! I used to love Pat O'Briens when I lived there as a place to relax. That was 25 yrs ago so I am sure things have changed. Within an hour of the Mississippi Coast and lots of casinos.
After having your share of Cajun food you will need to row your milage back like damselfly said :o

Not only was I occupied last week doing System Restores, backups, re-installations, scans, repairs and other various and sundried computer-related forms of hellish frustration, but I hadn't rowed from Monday to Monday either. That's not very smart if you're training for a race 7 weeks off (Feb. 9, 2014)! You just don't take a week off like that!
So Monday, I wasn't going to chance going for an endurance HM row, so I set my RowPro for an hour. Felt strong, but didn't feel like my endurance was there. The final 10 minutes were rough, but I held on. I had done 15,784 meters during the hour, which actually was a Season's Best (SB) by 27 meters! And that was with using the first 5 minutes as a much slower paced warm-up!
Tuesday, I figured I'd do a nice, slow HM, and get over 200K for the Holiday Challenge. But it was not to be. I started out too fast, kept getting faster, and ran out of juice at the halfway mark, about 10,600m.
So, I took a day off... Tonight, I was about to do an hour, when one of the hotter rowers on RowPro put up a sudden 5K. I took the bait, and signed up. I got a 5-minute warm-up in, so I knew I could start fast. I was able to stay with him for the first half, but the I decided that finishing was more important than winning. He beat me by almost 22 seconds, finishing in 17:23.5, an average of 1:44.4 to my 1:46.5.
But, my 17:45.3 had knocked over 29 seconds off my previous SB of 18:14.5 (1:49.4), catapulting me from #44 to #18 in one fell swoop! I had impressed myself! It is unlikely I'll get another row in before Sunday afternoon, though...
Will I be ready for Feb. 9th?

17:45.3 is not bad at all. Rowing at 1:46.5 for 17+ minutes is tough, I don’t care who you are. If you open the ranking window to include 50-69, you will see that you are well ahead of the great Tiff Wood, age 61, the main rower profiled in Halberstam’s The Amateurs. His recent posting is 18:27. That gives a little perspective on your time.

What race on Feb 9? Is it a regional Concept2 regatta? There is one in GA at GaTech on Feb 1. I may go, if my 2K performance improves in the next 5 weeks.

I suspect that most of us have never used RowPro. Is it just random as to who you row with/against? Or are there ways to form groups? Does the technology work well - the entire RowPro setup and operation?

Also, if you look up the 50-69 ranking list from your spot, you will find another TimbukTOOian at 17:34.7 for 5K, the oldest person in the top 50, at age 67. There are 5 of us 60+ who have intruded on this list, including the unbelievable TJ Oesterling, 65, from Hawaii at slot #2 and who holds virtually every indoor rowing record for age 60+.
JimG, Gainesville, Ga, 78, 76", 205lb. PBs:
66-69: .5,1,2,5,6,10K: 1:30.8 3:14.1 6:40.7 17:34.0 21:18.1 36:21.7 30;60;HM: 8337 16237 1:20:25
70-78: .5,1,2,5,6,10K: 1:32.7 3:19.5 6:58.1 17:55.3 21:32.6 36:41.9 30;60;HM: 8214 15353 1:23:02.5

Good morning all, i have been following Pete's plan with 4 rows per week trying to get my stroke rate and form dialed in. I am in week 6 and things are progressing well. I was
uising 2:12.0 and 26 for my benchmark as being a cardio junkie i tended to bang 30-31 spm. Todays row of 7500 meters was very encouraging as stroke rate was 23-25 per split. I am having a hard time now holding my 2:12 and came in today at 2;10.9. Cant complain as DPS is now up 9-10 range, so very happy. Have a great day all.

I Sure hope everyone had a Great Christmas, and looking forward to a safe and Happy New Year coming up... I had missed entering my meters for a few days so I finally got caught up. Still fighting this darn sinus infection, I am amazed how good I feel after working out, but feel like garbage during my row.

I wish a everyone a safe and Happy New Year.....

Good morning all. Week #7 of Pete's training plan and nailed my numbers. 2:11.9 and kept spm under 24 for each split thus raising my dps. Was an extremely satisfying 8k row. stroke is really getting dialed in. Plan on competing in the police/fire games in June, Im thinking i will be ready. Hve a great day.... :D

Izzzmeister, sorry just read your post about row pro. I have used that program since i got my rower and it is a fantastic program. You can set a pace boat or row against people on line and it automatically feeds your meters to the c2 log book. It is a versatile program and i cannot imagine having not used it. I always throw a pace boat up as it really makes the time fly by.
