Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I am still totally in love with rowing, but I have backed off a little. I don't plan on making a million meters for the season until January now, my cross training and holiday plans are just too demanding. Also I misread and mis calculated how much I could raise for charity in the holiday challenge, I thought 300,000 meters would raise a hundred dollars and I was gonna match whatever I raised. I now know it will only raise $10 for my charity. I am still gonna row a bunch, but I am not gonna knock myself out to get C2 to donate $10. No criticism intended, but I will just do a direct donation and row as much as I can without messing up my other plans.

I've got limits. Here's another video of Corliss (same guy) that may explain why I don't find that particular activity very attractive.damselfly wrote:
When you gonna do this, Tony Stark?
Now let's see...need to bring this back to rowing/erging to stay on topic. Umm...OK, how about if we title this post "Here's proof that erging is safer than squirrel suits?" No? OK, how about "Watch this video the next time you're trying to decide whether to erg or jump off a cliff" (hey, who doesn't face that question on a daily basis?)

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
John, the right thing to do would be to row 3,000,000 meters and earn the $100 donation! C'mon, time to "cowboy up"!johnb wrote:I thought 300,000 meters would raise a hundred dollars and I was gonna match whatever I raised. I now know it will only raise $10 for my charity. I frequently ponder the question, "Should I go to work, or jump off of a cliff?" Fortunately for me (but not necessarily the rest of the universe), there are no nearby cliffs off of which to jump.glenmbaker wrote:OK, how about "Watch this video the next time you're trying to decide whether to erg or jump off a cliff" (hey, who doesn't face that question on a daily basis?)

I stopped the video at the "Some viewers might find this disturbing" warning... I have a hard time "unseeing" stuff.glenmbaker wrote:I've got limits. Here's another video of Corliss (same guy) that may explain why I don't find that particular activity very attractive...
On a lighter note, AND keeping things rowing related so it clears our "moderator"...
Happy Holiday Rowing!!!

Oh, toooo funny!
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
It has been a long and slow road to recovery- without surgery!
it has been a full year since I herniated the L-5 disk in my back- 12-11-2012.
I reviewed my training log from last year- near the end, I was red-lining for sure, rowing for 80 or 90 minutes at a clip, and then trying to add on other exercise.
It will take me another 3 or 4 or 6 months to get back to where I was- as far as healing the back, and speed in the boat, but I am including a warm-up and a cool-down 10 minute walk, and I am also biking, arc-training and swimming- and I finish up with a soak in the JCC hot tub most days, too....
I have upped the rowing for the winter fund-raiser- will probably cut back after Xmas.
I am retired now, have a granddaughter in SF, am working at finding a new balance- pampering myself for now... it has been a brutal year in some respects, and a great year in some ways. I am happy to be here now.
That old adage: "it's a cinch by the inch and hard by the yard" seems to apply.

Way to go man! We all have mountains to climb and obstacles to overcome, it sounds like you are really getting it done. One day at a time and you'll get where you need to!garygOP wrote:It has been a long and slow road to recovery- without surgery!
