Congrats Ken G and Cathie! Welcome to the reindeer herd. Thanks Kona for the reindeer name that has such a deep meaning to me.
Also a belated welcome to Jayne glad you are rowing with this fun team.

We have several teammates who can commiserate with you on being thwarted (a word with good rowing origins btw....as being crossed up can refer to having an oarsman seated in an opposing place in the boat...but I digress). Those who row or ski-erg in a gym are often faced with a maximum of 30 minutes on any individual piece of equipment. Sometimes, though, you can get the longer row done....so a Christmas wish is getting enough time on the rower... :D

Another reindeer claimed !

Post by Kona2 » December 7th, 2013, 12:24 pm

Hooves are flying fast and furious these days....and another reindeer has trotted out to join the Lunie herd. And ... another bunny trail of the mind episode. It's a segue from the Lone Ranger and Silverheels...We return to episodes of TV past, and the reminder that once upon a time, the Lone Ranger was a Texas Ranger. The Texas Rangers are currently members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, which operates as part of the US Marshals Service. US Marshals have been in service since the late 1700s, serving in often unseen but critical ways. The US Marshals are the enforcement arm of the US Federal Court system and they have a lot to do with judicial protection and witness protection. Some of you may be familiar with the televised show In Plain View, which offered up a view of the role of a female deputy US Marshal and the witness protection system in Albuquerque NM.

Turns out that our teammate Minnie, who rows while watching movies and episodes from TV land, was finishing up the series of In Plain View while gathering her meters to reach the Concept2 donation amount...and get her reindeer. So her reindeer is Marshal, after In Plain View. We don't know if Marshal is protecting another reindeer who might be in the witness protection program....these things have a way of morphing into their own truth.

Image Image ?!?!

Could be that in true Minnie-the-Mooner fashion, a half marathon and more was involved in claiming this reindeer....

Congrats Minnie (Marshal) on your reindeer! Woo hoo! I guess everyone knows (at least those of us of a certain age) that Marshal is the name of Matt Dillons horse on Gunsmoke series.

Hooboy! Another reindeer...and absolutely must continue with the western theme here since it's The Man In The White Hat aka Mike G who has earned his Concept2 donation and claimed his reindeer. At least initially, wearing a white hat was a symbol that you were one of the good guys in western lore....and one of the first to wear the white hat was a cowboy in a comic strip called Red Ryder. About the same time as the comic strip came out, there was a big marketing collaboration with Daisy BB guns....you guessed it, it's the Red Ryder BB gun. But this reindeer is all about the Cowboy who was Red Ryder. Word has it that the bad guys didn't always get away ... or even...gulp...survive when Red Ryder was after them. Here's to peace in cowboy land....

What is it with people joining the Lunatics, then dropping out en masse? Looks like we lost five rowers yesterday.

Thanks for the call-outs ... I simply HAD. to. have. a reindeer, last night. Let's Go, Thundering Lunatic Herd! Such insane motivation ... and, I'm so very proud to have set our Astrogator on yet another of her infamous bunny trails.

Peter G (TRIUMPH)

Last year, Peter G's reindeer was Max, after Max the Dog turned reindeer from The Grinch. Still, we turn the bunny trail from westerns to the war effort (around World War I). Pretty important to increase communication with the front lines, and some of the English bicycle makers were adding some engines to their bicycles. These motor-bikes still had pedals, so they weren't really motorcycles. But Triumph did produce a true motorcycle in 1915 called the Model H. This model was so reliable it got the name Trusty Triumph. We need trusty reindeer, so Peter G's reindeer is Triumph!

Congratulations, Peter G, on reaching the Concept2 donation milestone...and freeing up another reindeer!

Hooboy....the rowing and ski-erging elves were sure busy yesterday afternoon and into this morning! Norma has been pushing herself to get her reindeer by earning the Concept2 donation, and she has done it ! Your reindeer is Stargazer. Of course, once you have the reindeer...you've gotta get the antler lights! Well done !
