Dude Abides, ( "I don't know about you, but I take comfort in knowing that..." ) <br />I have used KBs for about 2 years. They are a "gym on a handle," literally !<br /><br />Xeno, it's hard for me to imagine you not loving them. IMHO, have a session with a DragonDoor.com certified instructor. As you know, there is no substitute for qualified instruction. Like rowing, good form yields great results. Poor form can cause injury. ( Of course, best to develop good habits from the start. ) If instruction is of interest to you, I might be able to make some good suggestions to you, and I would be happy to do so. Quick story:<br /><br />This past year I was on my universities club rowing team. I was a senior but I got addicted, quick. In the spring me and some of the guys would go to the field house to do 2000 meter races every tuesday for the last month of the season. The first time I broke 7 mins, I was at 6.59.4. While I technically broke 7 minutes, it was only by a hair. The next week, I went down...by two tenths of a second: 6.59.2. I was kind of bummed that 2 tenths was all I could shave off. I had a kettlebell that I fooled around with during the year, doing exercises here and there. Sitting in my that night I thought to myself that the kettlebell might help and worked out hard with it. I did it for 4 days out of the next week. My next time? 6.52.2!!! seven seconds!! I'm not sure if it was all of a result of working out with the kettlebell, but I'd like to think it played a part, in addition to the erging i did that week.<br /><br />Again, just was curious to see if anyone was using them and seeing if anyone has noticed gains in their times with them. <br /><br />Row hard!

You can do double swings (two kettlebells, one arm on each) but thats way harder, especially after a few rowing sprints. <br /><br />The swing is probably the most basic ballistic exercise you can do with kettlebells. it's not technically demanding and it's fun, too. <br /><br />I'm still working on the windmill, it's kind of hard for me and I don't do it every day like I do with the rest of the exercises. It's not the same as the swing at all, it's not ballistic, either.<br /><br />Check out www.dragondoor.com thats where you can get the kettlebells and some other strength training products. I never have though. I know that its best to give up on an exercise if I feel the weights are becoming too heavy or I feel out of control with them. <br /><br />With the swing, you grab the kettlebell by two hands and swing it straight out in front of you, you don't swing it side to side. take your arms and put them out in front of you like you're diving headfirst, your arms are creating a 90 degree angle with your shoulders, thats how the swing should look. I swing mine a bit higher than that, so the bell is just even with my head or maybe a bit higher. But bare minimum, it should make that 90 degree angle with your shoulders and body.<br /><br />does that make more sense? hope it helps!
