"Boys In The Boat" arrived on my doorstep last weekend, the same day that my coach handed me "The Shell Game: Reflections on Rowing and the Pursuit of Excellence" (Kiesling). Looking forward to finding time to read both of these. Need to find an erg attachment that reads books to me....Cyclingman1 wrote: Other good rowing books would be BOYS IN THE BOAT, THE AMATEURS, & ASSAULT ON LAKE CASITAS.

Just saw that video (on the row2k site). Wish they would have shown the margin though, no idea what the length of the race or the time differential was! (and no I'm not spilling the beans...watch the darn video if you want to know who won!)damselfly wrote:I know, you've all been losing sleep over the question: who's faster over 500 meters? In a word, audio books! I'm a big fan.
Thanks to all of you for book suggestions.
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
For rowing, I suggest you get some basic sound mixing (DJ) software and blend the audiobook with a fast beat. You can also speed the audiobook up a bit which will help. I listened to war and peace in 27 minutes one day. I held a 1:45 split the whole way.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Well, they don't give times (that I can see) but there's a reddit discussion of the event. And this article again doesn't state times but reports that the winner was ahead by less than half a boat length. Pretty darn close!glenmbaker wrote:

All I know is it looks like if you're not careful you could scalp one of your teammates kayaking. Those paddles were FLYING!

Ah...of course. The well known "Tolstoy" workout of 7,714.2857 meters. I've often wondered why Concept 2 doesn't allow you to log that one as a ranked workout.Quatroux wrote: I listened to war and peace in 27 minutes one day. I held a 1:45 split the whole way.
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
That workout is gaining in popularity. I've seen it mentioned twice already in this very forum! I'm sure it is just a matter of time before we see it an option on Nonathlon.glenmbaker wrote:Ah...of course. The well known "Tolstoy" workout of 7,714.2857 meters. Personally ALL of my absurdly long rows were done in a single setting. Honest, every one of 'em.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
My son and I have often discussed whether that would even be possible. We figure we'd get about 10 strokes before having to turn around and go the other way, and we'd barely have room to clear the banks with the oars. Anybody else floating the river would have to get out of our way to avoid being clobbered with oars. Add to that the fact that we'd be going backward, not able to see the traffic...sounds like fun! (but probably not worth schlepping the boat across the mountains)damselfly wrote: Glen B - 12,000 A lazy pull down the Deschutes?
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Happy Sunday everyone!
After over 4 years rowing (almost) every day with this Team it is time for me to put my Erging regime on hiatus. Even though my body could do with a break, I'm moving into the city centre and have decided not to take my machine along with me to concentrate on all round gym work, and, ultimately my career.
Even though I will still contribute some metres when I visit my family home, the consistency will obviously be far less. That said, I will still try and pop back to the forum to say hello to you al and chalk up a few k when I get chance!
Row strong guys!
