TimbukTOO Team Room
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Had a great couple of rows today! I have really
enjoyed the FTC. I exceeded my expectations
and have improved my rowing technique, speed,
and endurance. I still have a tendency to row to
fast (30-32) SPM average unless I am concentrating
on maintaining a lower stroke rate. I also realize that
I sacrifice some power in my drive when I row faster. My
best 2K time to date actually happened when I forgot to check
The damper and drag factor and mistakenly left it on
the highest setting. I wonder what that means? I hope
it means that I have some better times still in me. Thanks
for all the help, encouragement, and guidance during the
challenge! I was excited to see our team shoot passed
10M meters! With a few days to go, can we make 10.5?

I know you're looking for a day of rest on the 16th (hereafter known as Sweet 16th), but as a numbers geek, I'd like a "before" & "after" on weight, blood pressure, cholesterol &, if applicable, any medicines of which you've been able to lower dosage...Cikan Vuz wrote:Awesome work for all!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
LOL Izzy! If I had "befores", i might be able to give you some "afters" but since I don't use a doctor, take meds and I do not use a scale, measurements or pictures... I just go by how my clothes fit... Though I have started paying attention to the mirror again too and am noticing I am getting smaller. When I was at the gym, I had access to a scale but don't belong there anymore since getting my home rower. Sorry.
I suppose given I am older, and have limitations, I do not row as fast and/or hard as most do. I just go for long and steady and to where I can still talk if I need to ( or yell if it is my kids... or the animals are wandering up to me while I am rowing ) Lately, I keep it so my Avg/500m is around 3:00 with my s/m average being about 23 to 27 cos I am in no hurry to row 50k+ a day... though I do add in sprints of 2:30 to 2:00 in pyramids
All in all, I average rowing about 5 hours a day. ( cos I have nothing else to do and I hope someday soon to feel good enough about myself again to let my picture be taken. LOL
& John, I too get better times when I have the damper set higher; to me it is like riding a mountain bike, the higher the gear, the power you need, but the faster you go (at least, that is how it feels to me). When I have it in the lower setting, I feel like I am riding slowly through sand, spinning fast as I can but barely going anywhere.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Thanks for the feedback on rowing Diane. Also, I do hope you feel good about yourself, I know from your profile that you are overcoming some injury from about 10 years back and the effort and determination that you have put in along with the meters you've rowed is awe inspiring. You may have been into body building once, but perfection and beauty come in many shapes, sizes, and forms which reflect our lives and our character and are not to be measured strictly in pounds or inches or even meters. Thanks for helping to lead the effort here in the FTC.Cikan Vuz wrote:LOL Izzy! Yes, I know about inner wondrous and how everyone is beautiful in their own way.
I myself am not stuck on external beauty nor handsomeness as we all have our own glow that makes us special to others. Me, I have not been "attractive " to anyone for over 15 years, regardless to my shape, style, size, etc... so whatever ( but I live in a small community of less than 500 where everyone is either dirt, older than dirt, or married or like-wise committed to another).
What counts to me is what I expect of ME, and I failed me and I am working my a$$ off to find ME again. After that then I might consider what others think of me; right now I only care what I think of me... but I think that you have to have lived being ME to understand/comprehend my feelings: sorry.
AnyWHOOOOO, on last day of FTV!! WOOOHOOOOOOO!! ROW TEAM ROW!!! COME ON! Some HAS to catch and pass me in daily row the last day!!!! reaaaallllyyyy!
P.S. (you can't go from 125 lbs and 4% body fat to 225lbs+ without disappointment in oneself: if you do, well then a a few hens are missing in the hen-house...)

Hello all. I've had great fun with the FTC, too. Reached my goals (200k, also my first half marathon). Today, on the last day of FTC, I'm going to top 600K for the season (thus far). (I almost wrote "TRY to top 600K", but Yoda starting whispering in my ear.) Glad I joined the Good Ship TimbukTOO. Fair sailing, my teammates. --Bobbie Z

Way to row, Bobbie! Proud Yoda would be, yeEEsss!Bobbie_Zee wrote:Hello all. --Bobbie Z

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Thank you, Yoda, I mean Lisa. I hit 600K! Whooo hoooo. I've gotten into the groove of daily rowing--either at my gym at lunchtime, or my faithful C2 in my basement at home. I'm leaving for vacation on Saturday (hmmmm, wonder if there are rowing machines in the hotel fitness rooms?), but I'll be back in a week, and thinking of new goals to reach.
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hey the FTC! is in the books! I had a good month and am looking forward
to the upcoming challenges. I just started rowing on August 1st and clearly
I am hooked. After relaxing the rowing for a couple days, I will continue
with my climb towards my first million meters. I will pass the half million
mark within the week. Barring any unforeseen obstacles I will certainly
get to a million by the end of the Virtual Team Challenge in January! Go team!
Great job and Great fun in the FTC!
