New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Great report, BIll! Thanks for posting it here. I don't check on the UK blogs any more, so I would have missed it.
And - of course - congratulations - not only a PB - but a new record. Are you going after some of the others? My records stood for a fair length of time, but three of them were knocked off since late February.

Bob,
I expect I'll try/give all times & distances a go this year, however, just enjoying the erg is good enough for me.

Yabba Dabba Doo! Great row Bill. Dennis Hastings is one of the greats in our sport. It takes a massive effort to beat one of his best marks. Well done.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I was at Copenhagen when Dennis set the M lwt 55-59 2k WR. Unfortunately he got a second place silver because the EIRC was using only the full decades and he was beaten by a rower in the 50-54 range. As I remember, everyone in the group medalled and the majority had golds, but Dennis got tripped up by the rules.Yankeerunner wrote:wjschmidt2 wrote: 16405! WTF! Never in my dreams. What a journey. That's terrific! What a great row, and distance! Congratulations.wjschmidt2 wrote:Thanks hjs! Just posted the below on the UK blog site too.
2 Cups of Coffee & 4 Chocolate Chip Cookies Plus 1 Gatorade & 2 Pop Tarts was the breakfast of choice this morning. Today, the plan was to do hard row. The location in the garage with the door wide open. The temperature was ideal, 12 Celsius with a slight breeze . The 60´ time trial was chosen . The real American record set by Dennis Hastings of 16278m in 2004 became the target. Drag factor is set at 118. A 2k warm up and I'm on my way. First 12´ split 1:50.1r30, feeling good. Second split 1:49.9r31, projected finish 16300 to 16377, feeling strong and keeping the rate up. Third split 1:50.2r30, projected finish 16300 to 16350, got to remember this is an hour row and need to pace myself. Fourth split 1:50.4r30, the goal is insight, just maintain, 16305 to 16350 is the projected finishing distance. Last split 1:47.8r32, with 8 minutes to go I still feel good, lets start pushing the pace. The goal has been sealed and now how far beyond can we go? 3 minutes to go the pace is now 1:46r32 with 16393 projected. Not good enough. 1 minute to go. Come on now. Give it ALL. 1:44r34,35,36+ 16400 comes into view. 20 seconds. Hell No, faster. 16405! WTF! Never in my dreams. What a journey. A personal best.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I'm quite new to rowing, I did it some years ago and used to do 15 min runs, where my record was 4310 meters. I have now discovered the rankings, and I am now "updating" my records according to the distances/times used in the rankings. Have been training regularly since January now, but only rowing now and then on my practices. I am 103 kg and 188 cm.
500 meters: 1.30.0
1000 meters: 3.05.0
30 minutes: 8347 meters
2000 meters: 6.38.7
I need to try a new record run at the 2000, as my record here is 6.38.7. I feel my 1k time is quite a lot better than my 2k time. My goal now is to lose some weight, and keep improving my records. I want to do sub 3 min 1k within the year, as well as sub 6.20 min 2k. I also want to do a sub 17 min 5k, and feel this might be the most difficult one.

Did a new 2k today, and got a 6.29 blank. Great to have broken the 6.30-barrier.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Thank you hjs!
Oh, I forgot to update my new 500 pr, but I got 1.27.5 last week
Yesterday I felt like trying something new, and tried the 4-minute. But as so often before, when I have done: day 1 quick run, day 2 rest, day 3 quick run, day 4 rest, then on day 5 I hit a wall when I try going fast. I was aiming for abouve 1250 meters, but hit the wall after about 2 minutes
PR's:
500 m: 1.27.5
1k: 3.05.0
2k: 6.29.0
30 min: 8347
Target for season is sub 3min 1k, sub 6.15 2k, and I really want to do good at longer distances (I have a farely good motor since I'm a uphill runner), so want to do 6k in sub 20 min(longterm). That means down towards 16.30 minutes 5k, which sounds quite hairy! Will settle for sub 17 5k this season.

500m - 1:21.3
i could not resist to participate in local gym cncept2 rowing challenge this week.
I have been Surprised as I haven't been rowing for last 10 years. First 200m easy @ 1:25, pushed next 200 @ 1:15 and died on last 100m With final stroke 1:25.

Some more PRs:
16518/60 on 04/18. Everything clicked nicely, but the first 10 minutes were slow (2646) and the first 30 was 8099. Picked it up a lot after turnover with 2807, 2817, and 2794 (couldn't quite hold on at the end). Trailing 10K was about 35:46, but certainly faster than my standalone of 35:51.8. Max HR was only 156 at 30' and overall 170.
8520/30 on 04/30. Wanted a nice close to the season, and my PR was almost 2 years old. I figured that with everything else (including a 16518/60 under my belt) that I should be able to break 8427, and I did so by a big margin. My trailing splits clobbered everything from my old PR, and even the trailing 25 minutes (7147) handily beat the best 5 minute split from the 8427. Can't be sure about the trailing 5K, but it was close to 17:28, and it surely beat my old 17:35. Given that my HR only hit 169, I should have some headroom, especially since I did an almost 16400/1h the previous day. Generally flat splits after the first 10 minutes, but a slight improvement in the last 5.
2K/6:35.4 on 05/13. Finally broke the dread 6:40 barrier, shaving 7 seconds off my old PR. All of my splits were actually faster than that 6:42.4, but I started much more aggressively. My final 250 was 0.2 slower than my next to last after all negative splits, so I was running out of steam, but max HR 173 suggests I should still have a little headroom. Usually I prefer longer sessions, so I don't get a lot of real speedwork. Faster overall than my best 1500, but that had a very fast final 500.
16604/60 on 05/16. Started a lot more aggressively than my 16518/60 in April, and was almost 200m ahead at the turnaround (8290 vs. 8099). But all of my splits slowed after the 2788/10 at the 20' mark. I had to crank it back down to 1:46 or so over the last 3 minutes to rescue the 16.6, but my HR hit 176 (higher than it has been since January), so I was definitely close to my limit. Other than trailing 50, splits were all slower than the 16518 last month.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Just resigned the lightweight duty and decided to go up to open weight. Weighed 159 at my last lightweight regatta of the 2013 spring season and had a 2k of a 6:43.8.
I've noticibly gotten faster due to my weight getting a PR on May 28th, 2013 of a 6:27.8. I'm currently a Junior in high school, anyway of lowering that PR?

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Have done two PB for this new season in consecutive days. Yesterday did the 6K in 22:54 and today the 5K in 18:58. Those are two goals I had always in mind, to go under 20 and under 23 minutes for the 5 and 6 K pieces. Now my goal is to break the unbreakable until now for me, to do the 8K under 30. This will require much more training.

Terrific achievement. Congratulations!
8k for 30' is a big milestone. I bet you can do it with the right plan.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Hope you don't mind, but I just have to have a brag. 58 y.o. FM. Did Masters games today so results should go to Concept World Rankings. Did a PB of 1.48.3 for the 500m, which puts me first in the World Rankings for the 55-60 age group (though unfortunately they rank 50-59 all together, so it drops down to fourth when combined with the 50-55 yr olds. Never mind, feels pretty sweet anyhow! Nice to have an Aussie up the top there. Then did 1,000m in 1.54 or something (must check), which is also around 4th in the world rankings.
