Jim G - 6,014 Back after a brief break!

Had the opportunity to go to a five day/four night OTW sculling camp in Lancaster, VA. Camp conducted by veteran rowers and college coaches John and Charlotte Dunn. They bought an old B and B and a small lake. Round trip on the lake is 2500m. We rowed three times a day. Did about 75K. Can't count in FTC.

Aside from learning the rudiments of sculling, by far the most interesting part of the camp was listening and learning their ideas about rowing technique. They really emphasize using the body (abs and back): layback and forward lean in the recovery. The rigid arm and staight back ideas seen in many places as well as the 1,2,3 sequencing of legs, backs, arms is downplayed by them.

I would recommend the camp Calm Waters Rowing. It is not terribly expensive.

So that is my excuse for no meters the past week.

I dropped the kid at his Water Polo match bus pick-up at 5 am PT and came home and was like O M G.. I need a new hobby.... LOL as I came home to a message from my friend that she was out of town and I could borrow her rower again; YES!

I went and picked it up and in between rowing sessions pulled out the Halloween decorations and made my haunted house...

I normally have an annual Halloween party, but this year I am not cos no one, and I mean no one, showed up last year. Not their fault; my oldest kept changing the date due to work and it ended up being on a Sunday eve and no one wants to party on a Sunday eve...

So, I am putting up my decorations and I MIGHT have the party this year but I doubt it, which is okay with me as I like to decorate and I love to cook and plan cool shitake mushrooms, but I hate left-overs and cleaning up after others LOL

Besides, I believe that is the last day of the Spooktacular Challenge and well hey, I GOTS to row for that LOL

My records show I've logged 64000 meters as of this morning 9/29. The team standings page only shows 54000. It looks like somehow 2 5k's fell into the bit bucket. I just want to make sure that TimbukTwo gets all the meters!

I guess I would suggest to re-check the dates on all the recent pieces in your logbook. I'm pretty sure Concept2 just selects that data using the challenge dates to get your challenge total. Hopefully it's just that. Good luck!

Knocked out my first HM this morning. It was
really a non event for me. I just followed the long slow
distance mantra. I wasn't worn out at all by the
end. I do need to continue to stretch out my distances
and continue to improve my technique before
undertaking a full marathon distance. My time was
a pedestrian 1:41:41.7, with several brief stops to
drink water, eat a KIND bar, and reply to text msgs
from my wife who is away visiting her ailing mother.
My approach of neatly folding a gym towel on the C2
seat works fine for me, as do my fingerless weight lifting
gloves. Hopefully by years end I will have a full marathon
under my belt.

Nice work on your HM! I've only done one FM (3:15:22.4) I need to try that again. Funny how much our bodies are capable of if we can get our heads to go along. I have two quotes on or near my erg: PAIN IS INEVITABLE, SUFFERING IS OPTIONAL (that one really helps when saddle sores kick in) and
THE BODY IS NOT WEAK...THE MIND IS WEAK (that one keeps me going long enough to get saddle sores in the first place)

ok, so I get my rower tomorrow (unless UPS has done and update and hence LOST me like they have done every year since tragic 9/11....


I know I get a rower to computer cable, how does that work? Will it automatically record my rows so I don't have to hand write em and them post em? or, does it just do that on rows C2 verifies?

Hope it comes tomorrow ! You can use the cable with your computer and row pro. Row pro will upload the numbers. There are probably other ways as well.

I'm still using pencil and Post-it technology.
