going sub 6:25

Post by The_Giant0 » May 24th, 2012, 1:32 pm

hey, im a first year novice collegiate lw and I went 6:37 on the erg after 5 months of training. I only weigh 156 (can get down to 150 pretty easily) and I am just over 6'1". I was thinking of trying to put on some weight to get some more power. Does anybody have any good lift routines to get peak power increase (i try to avoid barbell exercises as I have very bad form). I think I really need to improve this as the fastest split I can hit is 1:25 while my best 30 sec piece is way to close to that (1:26).

There are no short cuts, fix your technique, best to get some experienced to help you.

Squat, deadlift, rows are strenghtmakers.

Best way to get better on an erg is to row on an erg.

30 seconds isnt long at all.. Most people score around their lowest split when rowing extremely short pieces like that.

Squats/deadlifts/rows

You don't need anything more than that as a rower for power. I agree that you should put on 5 or so lbs of muscle.

Sounds to me like you need to work on your anaerobic performance.

My low split is 1:09.9, there's no way I could hold that for 30 seconds though. Probably about a 1:18 or so. I am a HW, though, so it's a bit different.
PBs: 2k 6:09.0 (2020), 6k 19:38.9 (2020), 10k 33:55.5 (2019), 60' 17,014m (2018), HM 1:13:27.5 (2019)

Old PBs: LP 1:09.9 (~2010), 100m 16.1 (~2010), 500m 1:26.7 (~2010), 1k 3:07.0 (~2010)
