RowPro V4.0 has been relased

Post by Carl Watts » July 7th, 2013, 5:14 pm

RowPro V4.0 has been released.

The big improvements are the rock solid online rowing with no crashing. I have been using V3.3 since November last year and V4.0 for a week and it has not crashed on me once.

The graphics have improved and there is also a Mac version available.

If you have a PC it requires either Windows 7 or Windows 8 to run.

Apparently now the platform is stable there are a number of tweeks that will be performed in terms of suggestions made by users, in particular on screen SPM of other rowers would be a bonus and an accurate row summary at the end etc.

Sounds great, but when I checked into DigitalRowing to find out about upgrades, I ran into a wall. I put in the serial code of my current version and checked the upgrade version. The next page had all my address and stuff filled in, but when I clicked on next, a dialogue box popped up that said I needed to fill in the country. That button said Select Country, but the up and down arrows did not do anything. There was no way to complete the order. If the ordering process itself has bugs like this, what must the software be like?

There was nothing on the website about a Mac version and, obviously there was no indication as to whether or not the upgrade option would apply to getting the Mac version.

Sorry to be negative about this. There are a lot of things I like about RowPro, but it has been a long, long wait and there still seem to be some troubling issues.

Added note in edit: I just noticed the bit about Window 7 or 8 only. I have been using RowPro on my MacBook with Parallels/Window XP, so the regular upgrade would require upgrading the system as well. Obviously a new Mac version would be the least expensive option, even if it is full price and not an upgrade price. But, as I said, I did not find any reference to a Mac version on the website.

Carl

where do we get the Mac version you have referenced below? I can only find reference to the Windows 7 and 8 versions.

Cheers

Country issue is solved. Yesterday I upgraded from v3 to v4.

Was just looking at the site and appears it only works on an intel Mac running parallels or boot camp.

This is 2013... and there is still no option to run RowPro without doing some kind of magic on a mac.
I'm wondering what is the percentage of people owning an erg that also own a mac.

I tell you what, it was a huge factor when I got my laptop recently. I wanted to replace my Mac with another Mac but ended up with a PC. I could not afford the cost of a Mac plus the additional stuff I might need solely to run Row Pro. And considering Row Pro is still glitchy sometimes on my new PC (and yes, I have the new 4.0 Version of Row Pro), it seems like a bitter pill to swallow.

For one I would never recommend running RowPro on a Laptop unless its the only option you have.

My partner just bought the latest Hp i7 Laptop on Windows 7 and it boots slower than my old single core Pentium 4 desktop on Windows 8 and the graphics are never going to compete when I can just plug in the latest PCI-E graphics card. V4.0 has been faultless on the old desktop to date.

Find an old desktop, usually you can locate one in a rubbish bin or your work is throwing them out. The last one I found was thrown out in the street with a USB Keyboard and optical mouse. Format it and make it a dedicated RowPro server and don't put anything else on it but the OS. Update the graphics card or put one in the empty slot and your away.

It is true however that worldwide the Mac user base is very small compared to a PC so I'm not expecting the relaese of RP 4.0 for mac users to make a significant difference at this point in time. Perhaps with the next generation of Concept 2 monitor that can connect via wireless to your iPAD that is running RowPro will make for a big impact as you will not have to be an owner of an Erg and can instead use one at the Gym.

I have a pocket pc, it runs on xp, therefore, i cant even think about giving a try at the trial version of RP; who could decently think of buying a pc solely for the purpose of an app? As for trying to find one in the backstreets, I dont think my wife is going to accept another computer at home.

If it is true indeed that the mac user base world wide is narrow compared to a PC, I'm pretty sure that if you're considering the base of rowers, there is an increase.

Please, C2, give us the opportunity to upload .csv from the PM to any thirdparty app like most companies do.

The PC costs next to nothing but you need to spend money on a decent medium to high end graphics card if you want the fastest frame rates and highest quality mode. 75Hz or 75 fps or more is what most monitors can run these days.

Currently there are Five mainly old PC's in my place running everything from RowPro to i-Sky for movies on the Television. Even use a Pentium 166MHz laptop still just to upgrade the older versions of PM3's to V101 Firmware.

I purchased Windows 8 to run a single application - RowPro V4.0. Hardly a big investment when you look at what many people are spending on Gym memberships these days.

I wonder how many bike trainers come today without any decent SW to get second by second afterward analysis.

And I dont think I'll ever be able to buy something for a single use regarding computer.

No. It runs on a Windows desktop, Windows laptop or on a Mac running Windows in Parallels or Bootcamp, only.

If you look closely you'll find that (like your Android smartphone) your smart TV is running a Linux kernel.

Really running a separate PC should be no problem these days.

I mean you can buy one for like $10 these days that will run it, and this one is better than mine !

Parallels fee is 80 dollars plus windows is 100 dollars crazy expensive then RowPro is 99 dollars. I hope that rowing software can better designed to fit the needs of Apple users. I can say that RowPro is not in my budget unfortunately.
