I'm going to be having foot surgery next month, after which I'll have pins in my toes for around 6 weeks
I'll be completely non weight barring for 2 weeks, then hopefully able to do a bit more but not walking or driving
Do you think I'll be ale to use a rower after 2 weeks?
I've used a concept2 a fair bit in the gym, but I'll be unable to get there so I'm thinking of buying a model d for home use.
I'm a competitive road cyclist and don't want to loose fitness too much whilst having surgery, I'll be having the other foot operated on once the first has healed.
As I'll be spending a fair bit bit of money without knowing if I'll be able to use it any advice would be useful!

Re: Rowing whilst recovering from foot surgery
I would be cautious, especially if you can't drive. The pressure on your foot from driving it similar to the pressure on your foot while erging, except there's a lot more while erging.
A lot depends on where the pins will be and your rowing style. If the pins are up near your toes and you usually push off your heels you might be okay. I usually use a mixture of both so no matter where the pins would be I would be unable to row.
My personal opinion is that you probably can't be erging. Sorry.
All the same I would ask your doctor no doubt they can give you a much better opinion than I can.

We've seen erging done with a leg in plaster. The solution was a skateboard, so that the wonky leg wouldn't get any pressure it would roll back and forth with the seat (like having slides for one leg).

Re: Rowing whilst recovering from foot surgery
Surely your surgeon will be referring you for physical therapy? I'd ask your surgeon's office, or if you have your referral for PT already, call the PT's office and ask them, so that they can incorporate rowing into your PT if appropriate.
BTW, since rowing can be as gentle as you like (and isn't weight-bearing), you may be able to row before the end of the two week period. Further, it is certainly possible to row 1-footed (particularly if you're using either slides or a dynamic, when you simply put your foot down on the floor).
However if you don't have slides/dynamic, you can rest your foot on a skateboard as Dougie suggests.
Best wishes on your surgery!

Re: Rowing whilst recovering from foot surgery
Hello, I had foot surgery about a month ago. I am completely non-weight bearing. I have gone insane, doing absoluetly no cardio. So I like you, decided on buying a rower. Just got mine in the mail today. I rowed with one leg, while letting my casted foot slide along the floor. I'm just going to be careful with my good leg, not hurting my knee.
