So far 70 rows this season, at an average of 16K meters per session; totaling 70 hours of rowing. An average pace of 1:52.5 / 500M, or I guess that would be 10 miles per hour.
No doubting the fact that you're a numbers guy! :D

My club hosts a visiting coach about once a month during racing season. I attended Saturday's clinic and it was great. It was 102F that day, but we got all of our rowing done before noon. I love the heat, but I think my new rule is no rowing in triple digits.
Sounds great! Personally, my rule is no ANYTHING except breathing and sipping cold drinks in triple-digits!

I did a 5k yesterday and the last 2k was at a really good pace for me. When I finished my heart was pounding like mad, which seemed odd to me... I only then remembered we had given blood the day before. Duh!

That same thing happened to me six weeks ago. I couldn't understand why I was so exhausted and so much slower after rowing on a Monday, when I usually do pretty good. Then I remembered giving blood on the previous Friday. It's amazing how much impact giving a pint of blood has on one's aerobic performance. It's also funny how we (older folk) forget such a significant event, too!

You blood donors are awesome. I was a regular giver, but showed up slightly anemic during a physical one year and was told to hold off. I also had a brief virus that kicked my thyroid into overdrive so I can feel for those of you struggling with thyroid problems. I'm so blessed to have both issues be only temporary. Rowing, however, seems to be a long-term problem for me.

Does it count if you do it on the water? (Can I ask that question in polite company?)

The rules say indoor or outdoors and that says " yes" to on the water from how I read the rules.I have seen this challenge for several years and most of the time they allow water rowed meters. It is a personal challenge and as long as you log the meters on your log book..that should work!
Row Strong! :D

Umm, yeah. Because of this:

Turns out that my 16 year old son (who's been rowing competitively for 2.5 years) is actually willing to get up at 4:30 in the morning to go row with his novice dad (who's been rowing for about 1.5 months). Who knew??

Personally I'm rather fond of the situation. He rows, I set the boat:

What, they don't come as standard equipment? Forget it! And it doesn't look like a boat you can take out on the Deschutes River... ;)

Looks like great fun! Another 'Tooian converted to an on-the-water rower. Any races in you boys' future?

Probably because it's one of those archaic (but beautiful) wood boats. The newer carbon fiber boats come with espresso, GPS, stereo, bluetooth, and automated rack-to-river carry systems.
And it doesn't look like a boat you can take out on the Deschutes River... ;)

Umm...no. Although they do train dragon boats on the Deschutes, and it's always fun to go smoking by a dragon boat (a gazillion people grunting away in the dragon boat while we just glide past 'em).

Possibly. I'll be doing some head races in an 8 this fall. He'll likely be competing in the same races but with his team. There are a couple of "fun" head races (head of the dog, e.g.) that we might try, but first we have to be able to do 5k without scooping up any of those Willamette River crabs that I like to catch!
