LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 6.30.13
Whooooosh! That's the sound of your ERG rowing through another month!
Time to be on the lookout as Ed starts his final run towards that ONE million meter rowing season! He's just passed the 900K milestone, and we can look for him to ring the milestone bell within a short time! bg's 20 million lifetime meters was an unexpected surprise this morning (can't see the lifetime meters that everyone has)! Several teammates have chased down this 20 MM milestone since the team forum came into existence...Danno, Minnie, Ron. Of course, David A has the biggest batch of lifetime meters. He must be nearing 60 MM at this time. Wowzer! Steady rowing sure builds the meter total, and how cool is it to have a goal that you can continue to work toward without deadlines!?!
Season meters as of 61/365 = 13,762,869 m
Total meters on the day = 156,885 m
Oars in space (participation) = 18 percent
MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

350 K Minnie
Thanks, everyone, for rowing with us!

Very sad to lose an Arizona hotshot crew fighting the wildfire outside of Yarnell, AZ. Mother Nature fierce with its drought, lightning and wildfires.

Finished rowing around midnight; loaded meters; followed above directive and went into backyard to regard night sky. Saw skunk inside yard, with tail already raised; grabbed dog and dragged her inside. Taking a pass on astronomy, tonight.Kona2 wrote:Row on, row on, row on! Minnie, the skunk stalker! Saved yourself a bit of work by grabbing Goldie before Pepe could give a blast!just27 wrote:Finished rowing around midnight; loaded meters; followed above directive and went into backyard to regard night sky. Hooboy! We've completed 66 days of Rowing Season 2014, and as I thought about putting a graphic up for 66, the bunny trail of Route 66 popped into view. Some on this team may well have traveled parts or all of the US 66 route that goes from Chicago to LA. This was one of the first national highways, and certainly the first designed to connect the rural communities, and give small towns access to a major national thoroughfare. Completing the US 66 system involved the New Deal era, where unemployed young men were put into road gangs to get the highway fully paved by 1938. US 66 was nicknamed a lot of things, but one I particularly liked is "The Mother Road." It symbolized the road to opportunity.
2,451 miles of national highway....or 3,945 km if you feel like putting that symbolic number in your daily row somewhere! Route went through 8 states: Illinois-Missouri-New Mexico-Kansas-Oklahoma-Texas-Arizona-California
US 66 was decommissioned as a national highway sometime in the 1980s, but it's not gone! Portions of the highway are still very driveable, and more importantly (for some of us), portions of US 66 are being looked at as potential route segments of the US National Bicycle Route System. And in my collection of bike socks, there's a Route 66 ....
Welcome back for the 2014 Rowing Season to Rachel ! Always great to see a returning teammate on the roster! And, on the Million Meter Watch, Ed's next rowing session should carry him past the ONE million meter milestone! Be on the lookout !!
