I started Music Therapy a while ago to help deal with stress, and one my favorite accompaniments with the music is Chamomile Tea. The mixture of it with the right music has been a lifesaver. A co-worker at Universal Music gave me this CD I use regularly - Secret Garden's "Earthsongs." It's a wonderful blend of string arrangements, piano, and other interesting sounds; there's even some celtic sounding material on the CD. I recommend them to anyone, because they've had such a positive experience on my life.

Here's a couple of useful links:
Secret Garden's Songs and Art
Health Benefits of Chamomile Tea

Take care everyone (relax and have fun)
Tabatha
That sounds sort of like a sales pitch. But whatever, I'd agree with you. Nothing warms me up after a really cold row like a cup of hot green tea, and I love coming back to my dorm after a hard erg workout, laying down on my bed, cranking up the volume on my laptop, and blasting some jazz, some french rap (IAM is the fucking man), or some more concept based music, such as Dredg or The Mars Volta, and just chilling the h*** out for 40 minutes or so.

Always good to find what works for you!

Five minutes with a cup of chamomile and a wonderful blend of strings and interesting sounds, and I'd be homicidal.

A cup of Costa Rican and some snappy mid-century Cuban works well for me, if I want to de-stress energetically. If I'd rather wind down, then it's Capital Maibock (tis the season!) and Getz & Jobim. (It's been dragged through the gutter in a million cheesy variations, but for me there is nothing more restorative than the definitive Getz/Gilberto Girl From Ipanema. In fact, I just now hit Play in iTunes and I already have a beatific smile on my face. Beatific, really.)

Whatever works.

However a Canadian university has done a study on stress relief methods and found that although meditation and a cup of tea do help, by far the most effective way to reduce stress is a good workout. Another reason for exercise.

Yes, exercise is definitely a critical part -- I jog daily, and I'm currently in the market for a rowing machine for the home. I guess to each his or her own with a choice of music and drink -- although I'd agree with Ducatista that Jobim does the trick on many an occasion (I really like Stone Flower - do you listen to Caetano Veloso as well?) If I really need to relax though, I stick with Secret Garden -- especially if I'm in the mood for strings.
Tabatha

I don't know about you guys, but exercise is a major source of stress in my life. We're camping right now, selecting our top 8 in 4's and on the erg, while everyone else is on spring break, drinking, smoking and having alot of sex, probably on a beach somewhere, while I clean out my blisters and weigh myself before and after each meal to make sure I'm still slightly above racing weight. You know, not that I don't want to be here, but still...
Nothing for me says, "chill the h*** out" like some good tunes, maybe some Bill Evans, or Medeski Martin & Wood, and a cup of tea, or some really good coffee. Or liquid calories for me, preferably a 22 of Guinness.

'I don't know about you guys, but exercise is a major source of stress in my life.'

Nice comment!!! Of course, you aren't 'exercising.' You are competing!!

Those of us in desk bound jobs are looking for the stress relief not trying to make a boat.

BTW, are you based in the U.S. or the U.K.?

Good luck at camp.

Neil
M/LW/38/US

Nope, not a fan of Veloso, recent or vintage. I like Beck, though — he's one of your guys, isn't he?

Beck is great, too, his last three albums have been really good -- I'm impatiently waiting for "Guero" to come out in a couple of weeks (his return to work with the Dust Brothers, ie Odelay).

If you can probably guess, I like an eclectic mix of music -- my CD collection is uncontrollably enormous, laugh. Have a large classical/new-age/world music collection, too.
