Hah, you are in such big trouble, Da Dude RR! Jan goes away for a week's golf, and you misplace everyone in Arkansas. Too funny!macbruce1 wrote: When I captured the numbers this morning we had 65 members. This afternoon it had dropped to 60 and it is now showing 57. All of our members from AR dropped off the affiliation listings and the regular Honor BoardI am hoping that this is just some technical glitch.

Ron I did my first Skierg 1/2 marathon today. But I'm a little scared to post it. I don't want to Vanish also. Give me time to get to Vermont where I will Be safe. Its only 35 miles from my house Thanks Richard T

Congrats to you Barb.
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
But, remember that Kona2 rides thousands of miles on her bike (with golf clubs over her shoulder, no doubt). She could pedal from Colorado to Vermont, before you even have the chance to intone "Denver, we have a problem ... "macbruce1 wrote: ... It is fortunate for me that she lives way out west, or she would probably come to my house and kick my butt ...

And, putting a silver lining spin on the worrisome loss of Arkansas, I'm now much further up the team's affiliation page.

Barbara ... nice clip! I like the commemorative teeshirt. It will go well with your red hat.

Lord of the Rings fans may already know some of the following. Back in the day when swords were given names (if the owner was of sufficient wealth and importance), there was a sword called Narsil that the elves reforged for Aragorn, king of Gondor. Aragorn was also known as the Ranger Strider, a man who helped protect the Hobbits in their initial journey with the one ring. LOTR is a great story series, and shared with many more through the movie dramatization. Some may not know where the line "not all who wander are lost" comes from, or may have only seen the statement on posters or tee shirts.
All That is Gold Does Not Glitter is a poem written by J. R. R. Tolkien for his fantasy trilogy, The Lord of the Rings.
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
We do have some teammates who are currently off the grid - no worries though. They are on a path of discovery somewhere.
Meanwhile, MANY THANKS to Da Do Ron Ron for helping to provide continuity of the stats and to all of you for keeping the team forum going. (I loved the card in the bicycle spokes!) It's good to take a break. I'll do a recap of the Global Marathon Challenge a bit later - looks like a great Luna-Tic representation on the Honor Boards.

ORB-it's going for another win at the Preakness this Saturday...
When ORB first started racing, he had a tough time just getting out of the starting gate. Word is that ORB wasn't a horse that looked like a big winner in his young life. He was an ordinary horse who happened to do all the right things for his training. After the first couple of races (banged his head on the gate of the second race), his trainers spent a lot of time working on gate issues. Seems that horses and people have some things in common sometimes with just being able to get out of the gate to get started...before they can go thundering down the course and cross the finish line while the crowd goes wild.

One of our family friends has a small independent bookstore in Tucson, and each time I'm in Tucson I stop by to support it. The books for children are often quite different here in the Southwest, and you'll find new twists like "The Three Little Javelinas" instead of "The Three Little Pigs." Make no mistake - javelinas are not pigs. They travel in packs and have tusks. What kind of kid's story is about things that have tusks and travel in packs?! Minnie reminds me that many of the fairy tales and such are quite scary when you think about it. But I digress. The artist who drew the fanciful flying javelinas (I can see that we will need to add new javelina reindeer names) exhibits in a gallery nearby....I see a visit in my future...
Re: All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 5.16.13
Just think of how many one might offend, by allocating skunk-pig reindeer names during the Holiday Challenge! There is loss enough, with the entire Razorback state disappearing to the dark side of the moon. Wait, what's this I read on wiki: "Texans often confuse peccaries (aka javelina, aka skunk-pigs) with the razorback hogs which run wild ... " I sense a tremor in the force; or maybe a fork in the bunny trail.Kona2 wrote: Make no mistake - javelinas are not pigs. They travel in packs and have tusks. ... Hahaha! Skunk pigs is a new one for a name. I was thinking along much calmer trails. We'll leave the javelinas alone.just27 wrote:Just think of how many one might offend, by allocating skunk-pig reindeer names during the Holiday Challenge! Saturday dawns in the Old Pueblo....not a javelina in sight....but there are some long-tailed lizards and some bird that sounds like it swallowed a referee's whistle. Meanwhile, the horses are getting ready for the Preakness, and anticipation builds. The garland of black-eyed susans is prepared for the lucky winner of this race.

Hooboy.... it was The Oxbow Incident yesterday as Oxbow took the Preakness and Orb-it came in fourth. Btw, I don't know how many of you know the book/movie The Oxbow Incident, but wowzer that is quite the creepy story. Oxbow, the horse, was full of good energy and ran away with the prized black-eyed susan garland. It will be another year without a Triple Crown winner....just goes to show you how great a horse has to be to win all three races.

There was a car show in the Old Pueblo yesterday evening, and as the temperatures cooled to a more manageable range, lots of people began to gather. A DJ played music from the 60s, interspersing trivia questions here and there (i.e., what state has only one school district?), and people brought their lawn chairs to sit around and chat in sort of a front porch style. Retro, and fun. Over 100 vehicles were on display, but there was something whimsical about this VW bug.....and it wasn't even entered in the contest....
