The comments part is always the hard part: You try to be funny and some people take it seriously, or you try to be serious and others take it as a joke.
Some people seem in a rut, so you try to cajole a bit, but they're exactly where they want to be. Others seem to be doing well, so you give mild praise, then you find out they were ready to quit & needed you as an enthusiastic cheerleader.
Some people need to go out like gangbusters and then moderate, while others would burn out doing that. I always feel funny advising they slow down. Am I dousing their enthusiasm or putting them on an even keel? Am I helping prevent an injury, or hampering a rising star? And maybe it's none of my business - maybe I should just let them learn from their own experience, unless they specifically ask...
But my pop's a psychologist, and I'm a nosybody, and my advice is worth every penny you pay for it, so I will keep dispensing it for now, until you come to my house and step on my face with hob-nailed boots. At that point, I will give you only ONE MORE CHANCE! AND I MEAN IT! This time, anyway...
