I wasn't until I read this :!:
Actually, I haven't spent nearly enough time OTW due to high winds. I hope to go out today in the rain. At best, I have 4 practices before the race. I'm so happy I did rec (as in slow people) instead of novice (which I just learned could include high school and college kids).
It looks like I'm ready to join the masters swim team. That's two days a week and I'll be happy to have my x-training schedule set in stone each week. Did I mention they swim at 5am?

Good luck!!
Thanks!

It rained on my way to the lake, but then the skies parted and we had a great row. I did catch a log with the starboard rigger and did a bit of damage to the boat. I felt bad for a minute and then decided that I pay dues, am a novice, and these things are going to happen. I don't know if the Boathouse Captian feels the same way.

Getting up at 4:30 was easy. Swimming 1800m was not. I felt great for about an hour afterwards and then it hit me.... kinda like an erg session.

The damage isn't so bad. The boat now looks kinda like this.

So for you racing enthusiasts, how does this venue strike you? :D
Concept2 on Facebook wrote: Sure, you were captain of your college crew team, but are you man or woman enough for the Gowanus Canal regatta, a 2.5-mile sprint where the entire course is on a federal Superfund site?

Does it sound super fun or just superfund?

Mr. Foote, who estimates he has logged 500 canal miles over 14 years and has not only survived with his skin and limbs intact but has fathered a child during that time, dismissed concerns that an errant or extra-vigorous paddle stroke might poison a participant.

“You’d have to be a really good shot to splash water into somebody’s mouth,” he said.
