Those are OTW meters. We will try for more today as long as there isn't too much wind. It looks like I might be able to race a single in a month. I'll have to take a little time off of work to make that happen, but the first race of the season is just 4 weeks away.
I did stop running and cycling. I have several more swim lessons to go before I join the masters swim program. That should cover my cross training. I'll be back on the erg this week.
Lots of new faces on here. Welcome to all.

Hey all,

Well I am back on the erg after being fairly absent for 18 months or so. I strayed into road cycling (again, I raced inthe 80's) and became pretty good in the local scene. I did notice some knee issues popping up last summer, but ignored it until the end of the racing season. When I did finally get to the Ortho, he di the normal stuff including a MRI, he told me that "cycling is not the sport for you", It seems that I have arthritis. :( I was heartbroken since I love riding and am good at it.

So after moping all winter and being a couch potato, I finally got off my ass and started doing stuff again. I never had knee problems erging so I started some easy workouts a couple of weeks ago. So far so good. Just for fun I did a 2k this morning and did a 7:51 fairly easy.

Assuming no issues pop up I plan on getting some sculling lessons and get OTW this summer. As much as I love my erg (?), I do like being outside when I excersise.

I just signed up foe the World Erg Challenge and hope to be able to help the team out again.

See ya,

(I need to update my signature, I am 50 now (yikes how did that happen).

Welcome back, Ray! Sorry to hear about your arthritis, but I sure hear ya on "how did 50 happen!?!"... Good luck getting back into rowing and thanks for signing up for the challenge!! Take it slow.

OTW meters don't count for the challenge, but they do for the season. It's something I'll have to try someday if I ever live where there is some flat water. ;)

I spent two hours OTW yesterday. There were a lot of drills, but I also rowed over 6k with my coach. I'll go back out today before having a week off. I'm not really sure how I'm going to handle a week off the water. I guess I'll just have to erg, but that really isn't going to fix my horrible form in the boat.

I was warned about the blisters. I don't get those on the erg, but I’d liken rowing a shell to swinging an axe without gloves. They’re probably on a 1-to-1 ratio on general wear and tear to your meat hooks.

What I wasn't warned about are the bloody knuckles. I don't have the timing down at release so my right hand gets in the way of the starboard oar. It wasn’t until I got to work today that I realized that I’ve bled all over this dress shirt I’m wearing. It is really for the best. Men my height probably shouldn’t wear yellow (big bird).

With 77 hours left to the start of the World Erg Challenge, we need to all start signing up, setting goals, and developing the Eye of the TimbukTWO Tiger! We now have 18 people signed up, going on 70! Thanks to veteran TimbukTWOers Jeff T, Raymond W, Kevin K, Mark E & Mike M for grabbing an oar!
No, I don’t learn from experience, and I’m choosing 300K as my WEC goal… What’s YOURS?

I'm not sure what goal I'm going to set. I go on vacation for 5 days with no access to an Erg. I'm TEMPTED to go with your 300,00 meter goal anyways but I just got clearance to run today. I MAY have to go for 250,000 at least. We shall see. BTW I did PR again in the 10,000 meters but I have a feeling it will be happening for awhile so next time I brag about it I better be pretty damn close to breaking 45 minutes!

Well, I have 351,275 left to hit 3 million. If that does not sound like a goal I am not sure what would. The only hiccup is that I am working 6 days a week/12 hours a day for the first half of the WEC. Worth a shot though.
