Hi Peoples am a NEWBIE

I wanted to lose some weight as well i am 5'10" 210LBS i guess i could lose another 40 to 50 lbs as well i started to row on Feb 9th of this year and in 11 days i rowed about 21000M i am rather shock in how easy this rowing is and impress in how good i feel after my time on it.
I admit i am hard on my self my first day i did 2800M probaly not something i would do again but i seem to be a natural sprinter you can tell if you guys look me up in 4 time sprint i did i went from 2:23 in a 500M sprint to 1:55.0. My main issue is i need to lose the weight and keep off for my cycling season i am doing many meter with little to show so far but i am determine to be under 200 maybe 190 by spring :) if you guys and gal have ideal please meassge me asap

I will also be a "newbie" in a few hours. My new Concept2 Model E rower is on the UPS truck and will be delivered later today. My concern is my age - 70 years old. I'm starting rowing very late in life and am out of shape. I'm just hoping this might help my wife and I tone up our muscles and gain more flexibility, and eventually lose some weight. We plan to start our workouts very slow, at least the first week, just to get our seldom used muscles used to the motion again!

Welcome.

Weight loss is the difference between calories burned and food intake. So, erg-wise, shoot for distance rather than short spurts. Of course, if you find distance boring, you can always liven it up by alternating between short spurts and recovery. Rinse and repeat.

Umm...don't you mean 70 years young? Taking the decision to change your life is the biggest step and you've done that, so now its just a matter of establishing a routine.

Join the Ancients Team; their top Erger is 1 year younger than you are and she pulled a mind boggling 50+ miles a day every day for 30 days in January. http://log.concept2.com/profile.asp?rn_index=152659 The #2 person on that team is four years OLDER (74) and pulled darn near the same amount. That is over 85,000 meters a day every day which just baffles me. If Darlene can pull two marathons a day for 31 days in a row, I'm sure you'll be fine with any amount of time.

Erging is much easier on the legs and joints and like anything, just don't over-do it in the beginning. Be smart about your approach and stick to a plan that is both diet and exercise based.
