I'm so glad that there's another challenge coming up in a couple of weeks. I have found it so hard to stay motivated since the end of January. Winter blahs I guess. :?

The Lunar ArMOONda shirt

Post by Kona2 » February 16th, 2013, 11:51 am

Ok - I just talked with Cafe Press, which is the same company that Concept2 partners with for its products. They suggest that the easiest way to share the tee shirt design (thank you AJ for use of the Lunar ArMOONda) is for anyone who wants to get this to just send me a message with your email address. I can then send the link to the product. And, if you want to order a different kind of tee shirt (this one was about $30, but there are others that are both less and more expensive), I will be glad to email you the photo that I used to make the design. And btw, this weekend Cafe Press has a special using the Prez1 promo code that pretty much pays for shipping costs.

For those of you look for a little extra motivation in your rowing, the Crash-B's are tomorrow. And it looks like a webcast will be available again, so you can watch it from the comfort of your home (I guess the actual degree of comfort might depend on how your timezone compares with races you might be interested in seeing.)
From past times, I remember the webcast using Silverlight, so you might get asked to install Silverlight if you don't already have it.
The basic schedule for the day is about 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST. Basically, there are various adaptive races that will get the earliest time slots, followed by various age/weight group races for the older folks, followed by various age/weight group races for the younger folks, and the Open races.

Here are some links if you are interested:
Race Schedule
http://www.crash-b.org/web/competitors/ ... dule-2013/

Erg Assignments (so you can look up who's racing and when, by name, by event, etc. - different sort orders provided)
http://www.crash-b.org/web/competitors/erg-assignments/

Supposedly, the webcast will be available by going to http://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/racing/world-irc. That web address is supposed to be updated to provide you a way to view the webcast shortly before the races start.

Sometimes, I hope to attend one day. I have it in my head that I would like to be able to go sub-7 for a 2K before I go. There are no rules about how fast you have to be to attend, that's just the goal I would want to reach before attending. I don't know if I have a shot at that goal. My personal best for a 2K is about 7:20, and I know I can still get to that, but it's a pretty big jump from 7:20 to 7:00. And I find my memory to be a very big inhibitor - because, you see, I remember how much 7:20 hurts. But whether I ever race or not, it's still fun to watch.

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 2.15.13

Post by Kona2 » February 16th, 2013, 1:19 pm

We have a team mystery to solve. There are two young gents (or the photos are really old), Zachary and Alex R, who signed on as team members. When I checked today's stats, Alex R had uploaded 163,712 m in the last week, and Zach had uploaded 50,977 m. Have asked before...and am asking again...who are these two? That's a ton of rowing - just want to make sure we have some real numbers.

Season meters as of 290/365 = 113,375,615 m

Total meters on the day = 498,981 m

Oars in space (participation) = 19 percent

One more link on the Crash-B's - here's a row2k article on some of expected highlights: http://row2k.com/news/news.cfm?ID=78211 ... R_KfR0sks2.

And, when I was just looking at erg assignments list, I noticed that Anke Molkethin of Germany, who is a world record holder mentioned in that article, and someone I am already familiar with, will be racing in 2 events that are pretty close together: the LTA Open Women at 9:05 AM, and the Lightweight Veteran Women (age 50-54) at 9:50. Wow!

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 2.16.13

Post by Kona2 » February 17th, 2013, 12:15 pm

Some of the stories that are told about the CRASH-B Sprints could come from this team! I was reading a script from the 2010 or 2011 CRASH Bs, and they talked about how it's a sport that it's never too late to join. A 56 year old grandmother took up the sport at the age of 52 as a part of a rehab from serious injuries suffered in a car accident...and at 56 she was in one of the elite groups. On water rowers, when asked what benefit the erg is for their training, generally seem to answer that the numbers produced in say a 2K sprint, are a general indicator of how fit you are. And there are indeed people who can row a sub-SIX 2K. Whoa.

Image Sixteen days into this four week Challenge finds Richard hitting the 600K milestone, AJ at 300K milestone, Danno at 250K milestone, Kristine at 100K milestone, Eric A and Mike M closing in on the 100K milestone. Go Navy. Go Army.

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage .. and Navy's STILL leading Army...

Season meters as of 291/365 = 113,607,394 m

Total meters on the day = 231,779 m

Oars in space (participation) = 17 percent

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

6.0 MM Jay
5.6 MM Ron
750 K Laurie - a cool three-quarters of a million!

Be on the lookout for a chance to celebrate a teammate's accomplishments...Brian C is savoring the row to ONE million...but he's due to cross that MILLION METER MILESTONE any time now.....

THANKS, everyone, for rowing with us!

Hi Team...

I’m doing a variety of training at the moment, getting ready for climbing in Nepal at the end of the year. I have been doing sprint training on the C2, so distances are nominal at times, hence, I’ve accumulated a few days worth.

I’d be a touch embarrassed to post some of them on a daily basis...

But must say, quite enjoying the sprints, great workouts, short and intense...

And my achillies, is my achillies heel, literally... Hasn't been too bad, can cycle and row, but staying out the the mountains and hills and no pack-walking for another couple of weeks. Very frustrating!!

I’ll be watching the Crash-B with interest. I’ve been following a group, who send out rowing workouts, and they’ll be competing, they have been doing some great times!

Take care, Baz! B)
